What's new

For Minecraft 1.21.1 / NeoForge.

Requirements: Java 21; NeoForge 21.1.248 or newer within 21.1.x.

Install this JAR on both clients and servers.

Simple Schematics 0.6.0

Changed

  • Update client and server together. 0.6.0 connects to no earlier build, in either direction. The network protocol is now "12"; 0.5.0 uses "11".
  • A world or Survival save written by 0.6.0 cannot be read by 0.5.0. Back the world up before you update. To go back to 0.5.0, restore that backup. Saves written by 0.5.0 load in 0.6.0.
  • Printer: Bind clears the preview. When the server accepts Bind current schematic, the preview is cleared, as Clear preview in Settings does, and chat says the schematic is stored in the printer. A refused bind leaves the preview alone.
  • Printer auto-resume (new server setting printerAutoResume, default false). Off keeps today's behaviour: after a chunk reload or a server restart, the owner must press Resume. On, a printer that was running carries on by itself once its chunk ticks again. A manual Pause, owed items, Recovery, a rules change or a Stop still wait for the owner, and so does a printer job saved before 0.6.0.
  • Capture access (new server setting captureAccess). operators (default) keeps today's rule: Creative mode and permission level 2. everyone lets any living player who is not a spectator capture, in any game mode. Size, output and concurrency limits do not change, and capture still stops at spawn protection. Each player can have one capture running at a time. Capture reads loaded blocks only and never changes the world.
  • /simpleschematics report is now a server command. It replies in chat with a link to the issue tracker; click it to open the page. As a client-only command it stopped the new operator commands below from reaching the server when typed in chat on Fabric.
  • Capture is greyed out with a reason when you may not use it, for example "On this server only operators (permission level 2) in Creative mode can capture." The Library and Settings buttons both do this.

Added

Capture in the world

  • Capture works in the world. Select Capture in the Library (or Capture / export in Settings) and you go straight back to the world. Right-click to set corner 1, then corner 2. More right-clicks move the corners again.
  • Corners can be in mid-air. Aim at a block and the corner is that block. Aim at open air and the corner is a marked spot ahead of you, 5 blocks away by default. A block you look at wins only when it is nearer than the marker. No scaffold pillar is needed.
  • Ctrl + wheel changes the marker distance, from 2 to 64 blocks. Aimed at a side of the box, Ctrl + wheel moves that side one block at a time instead. From outside the box, any side you look at moves. From inside the box, a side moves only when it is nearer than the marker; otherwise the wheel changes the distance.
  • V goes back to the capture menu, where you pick the origin (it uses the same aiming), name the file and export.
  • Both corners and the origin must be within 128 blocks of you. The server refuses a box farther away, so capture cannot read blocks or find loaded chunks far from the player.

Controls bar

  • A bar under the crosshair shows the current tool and its keys, read from your own key bindings, and the anchor's coordinates while you edit a preview. It shows the whole time a preview is being edited and during capture. It is hidden under F1 and while a screen is open.
  • Turn it off with the Controls bar: ON / OFF button, in Settings and on the capture menu. The choice is saved in config/simpleschematics-client.properties (showControlsBar). With the bar off, the tool and key lines at the top left come back.
  • When it does not fit, the anchor coordinates are dropped first, then the change-tool and menu parts. If it still does not fit, it is not drawn. It uses at most two lines and stays clear of the shopping list.

Skip blocks

  • Skip block types you do not want. In Materials, select Blocks... to see every block type in the schematic with its count. Click one to skip it. Skipped blocks are not previewed, built or pasted. The file is never changed.
  • Skipped types stay in the list, shown struck through, so you can click them again. At least one type must still be built.
  • A Creative paste leaves whatever is already in the world at a skipped cell.
  • Skipping a block that holds others up (dirt under flowers) stops a Survival build at those blocks.

Slow builds

  • New server setting survivalMinSecondsPerGroup (0 to 3600, default 0). Every Survival build and printer waits at least this many seconds between groups, so builds take real time. Players can go slower with the speed slider, never faster. 0 keeps today's speed. Each build starts with no head start, so its first group waits the full interval too.
  • With a minimum of 1 second or more, the speed slider is disabled and says "This server places one group every %s s". The Survival screen shows the same line.
  • Busy message. A server runs at most 8 unfinished builds at once. When that limit is reached on a server with a minimum time, the message says "Every build slot on this server is in use, and builds here run slowly on purpose. Try again when one finishes."

Locked blueprints

  • Packs can hide blueprints. Data pack files data/<namespace>/simpleschematics/locked_blueprints/*.json hold {"locked": ["factory/smelter", "tier2/*"]}. A blueprint's id is its path inside schematics/, lower case, with / and no file extension. * matches within one folder level and ** across folders. Locks load with the world and on /reload.
  • Hidden only. Locked files are hidden from the Library, its search and the layout piece picker. Folders always stay visible. Anything a pack does not lock is always shown, so files players add themselves just work.
  • Commands (permission level 2): /simpleschematics unlock <players> <id>, /simpleschematics lock <players> <id> and /simpleschematics unlocks <player>. Use team <team> for a vanilla team, or ftbteam <name> for an FTB Teams team (only when FTB Teams is installed), in place of players. The id may be a pattern. lock removes only an unlock granted with exactly that id or pattern, and says so when nothing matched.
  • Typo check. unlock still stores the id, but adds a note when no data pack locks anything it could show. unlocks lists the locked patterns (the first 20, then how many more).
  • Teams. A player sees their own unlocks plus those of every team they are in. The server checks team membership about once a second and sends a new list only when it changed. Unlocks are saved in the world in data/simpleschematics/unlocks.json.

Library organisation

  • Details file. A file <name>.schem.meta.json beside a schematic can give it a name, a description, an icon item and tags. Details files are not listed. A bad one is ignored: the plain file name shows, with a note saying why.
  • Search and tags. Search matches the file name, display name, description and tags. The Tag: All button steps through the tags used in the folder.
  • Edit. Select the Edit button at the end of a file's row to open Edit Details. It never overwrites a details file it cannot read.
  • 3D hover panel. Hold the pointer over a blueprint and a card shows its name, size, description and tags. A moment later a 3D model of the build turns slowly beside it. The Library says "Hover a blueprint for a 3D preview". On a narrow screen the card floats near the pointer. Builds of more than 131,072 blocks show the map-colour picture instead.

Known quirks

  • The 3D hover panel draws blocks, fluids and block entities only. Entities are not drawn.
  • Locks only hide library entries on the player's own computer. They are not a security feature.

Technical note

  • The simpleschematics:sending_policy message now also carries the capture access and the minimum seconds per group. A new simpleschematics:blueprint_locks message sends each player the lock lists that apply to them.
  • Saved data added: data/simpleschematics/unlocks.json (schema 1), the .meta.json details file (schema 1) and a ControllerPause field on printer jobs. Skipping a block adds a SKIP choice, saved by name like the others.

Updating

  • Install 0.6.0 on both client and server. No earlier version connects to 0.6.0. Fabric requires Fabric API.
  • Back up worlds first: 0.5.0 cannot read a world or Survival save written by 0.6.0.
  • A Fabric server that already has a simpleschematics-server.properties file needs the new lines added by hand: printerAutoResume=false, captureAccess=operators and survivalMinSecondsPerGroup=0. Until then it uses these defaults, and the server log names each missing line at startup. NeoForge and Forge add them to their .toml file.
