What's new
# Silex 0.1.0 for Minecraft 26.2 (Fabric): first public beta
The first public build of Silex. Everything below is new.
## Your automaton
- One automaton for survival, the Miner: an animated robot with a screen face that hops when a program succeeds and shakes when it crashes.
- Builder Module and Farmer Module: use one on your Miner to add its tools and its functions for good.
- Ten craftable hardware upgrades: Processor T2 to T5 (up to 50,000 operations per tick), Motor T2 to T4 (up to three times faster), Sensor Module (sees 16 blocks around), Cargo Bay T2 and T3 (up to 52 slots); the part you replace comes back to you.
- Program Disk: save a program from one automaton or Terminal and load it into another. A fresh Terminal placed next to a redeployed automaton takes the program it last ran.
- 34 functions to call from C: move in every direction, turn, dig and place ahead, above and below, look, scan and find blocks, read the inventory, use chests, plant and harvest, talk and emote; 32 block constants.
- Construction Beacons: your automaton digs and builds only within 16 blocks of your beacons, and never digs Silex blocks.
- Workshop Beacon: builds a stone brick and glass room for your Silex blocks around it.
- 21 crafting recipes, all in the recipe book from your first tick; the ten base recipes need no redstone.
- A broken Terminal keeps its code on the dropped item.
## Programming
- Real C23 on SilexVM, a sandboxed virtual machine: no access to the host's files, network or processes.
- In-game editor: syntax colours, completion, errors explained as you type, up to eight files per project, find and replace, folding, several carets, go to definition.
- F4 palette: your automaton's functions and your Code Library codes, inserted with one click, with a filter.
- Debugging: breakpoints (F9), step into, over and out (F8, F10, Shift+F8), slow mode, a console, and the Black Box to rewind a run.
- Dark (in the Silex colours, the default) and light themes, each with a high-contrast variant, text from 100 to 200 %, an optional dyslexia-friendly font (Silex Dyslexic, based on OpenDyslexic); shortcuts follow your keyboard layout (AZERTY and Dvorak included).
- Singleplayer disk mirror: every Terminal's files, with the real headers, in a folder you can open in your own editor.
## Progression
- Silex hub on K: Story, Skills, Codex, Stats and Quests tabs, with one Silex look across the hub screens.
- Quest tree: a five-step tutorial, then 22 mining, building and farming jobs checked in the world, and 8 Workshop quests for modules, upgrades, Code Scrolls and Program Disks; advancement-style frames, an on-screen quest tracker and "Quest done!" toasts.
- Code Library: 32 codes, 4 known from the start and 28 to learn from Code Scrolls found in chests.
- Story mode: 54 missions, the eight chapters of act 1 and its final Examination, then the start of act 2, with stars, hidden tests and a mission report.
- Skill tree of 36 skills, Codex of 33 lessons plus a sheet for every automaton function and 13 C library functions; pages open as you progress, all at once with the story off.
- A Silex tab of 63 advancements (six hidden), five statistics and a one-line report after each free-play run.
## Servers
- `config/silex-server.properties`: a cap on player-code time per tick, the worker pool size, the watchdog, console and project limits, the disk mirror and a story switch (`story.enabled`).
- Every player has their own automata, quests, Code Library, story progress and mission arena.
## Languages
- English and French.
## Known limits
- Beta: expect bugs and back up your worlds.
- Fabric only, Minecraft 26.2 only; a NeoForge version is planned.
