What's new

SSCA 8.0.0-magic-dev.3 Changelog

Compared with 8.0.0-magic-dev.1, this update adds five spells, rune research and spell enhancement, alongside changes to spellbook progression, form combat, and visuals.

New Spells

  • Domain: Charge to create an enclosed domain lasting 40 seconds. Movement and attacks across its boundary are blocked.
  • EXPLOSION: After a long charge, unleash a large, indiscriminate explosion at the selected location, with dedicated visuals and theme audio.
  • Lunar Phase: Lock onto a player or creature and exchange health percentages. Each participant's health changes by no more than 50 HP and cannot fall below 1 HP.
  • Beep Sheep: Launch a sheep projectile that temporarily turns eligible targets into sheep, preventing attacks, block breaking, and block placement. Bosses and creatures with more than 50 maximum HP are immune.
  • Death Is the End of Everything: Charge in place for 13 seconds, then deal massive spell damage to targets not protected by the whitelist within a 13-block spherical radius. Threatened players receive a countdown and a warning around the edges of their screen.
  • Added exploration-based acquisition routes: Domain scrolls can appear in loot chests in the End, EXPLOSION scrolls in the Nether, and Death Is the End of Everything scrolls in the Overworld.

Rune Research and Spell Enhancement

  • Added rune research, scroll analysis, analyzed diagrams, tiered formation assembly, trial runs, and scroll imprinting.
  • Introduced 18 rune types. Players can investigate spell formations and customize their enhancement rings to modify supported attributes such as damage, healing, area, range, projectile speed, and duration, with corresponding mana, charge time, cooldown, and stability costs.
  • Rune meanings and formation rules are generated for each world save. Research progress and completed designs can be saved.
  • Added interactions between adjacent runes, conflicts, and resonance effects, with design comparisons and explanations of current contributions, costs, and failure reasons. Research hints leave room for discovery without revealing exact rune recipes for individual spells.
  • Formations must pass a trial run before they can be finalized. The enhancement ring may remain entirely empty; once enhancement runes are used, the whole ring must be filled, with at least 20 stability and no hard conflicts.
  • Naturally generated regular scrolls remain unenhanced. Only scrolls with an actual enhancement ring receive the Modified suffix, consistently displayed in item tooltips and the spell HUD.
  • Removed the starter-scroll claim feature, shifting spell acquisition toward exploration and research.

Spellbooks and Casting

  • Increased the attribute formation slots of level-three spellbooks from 5 to 6. The Infusion Altar now uses a six-pointed layout.
  • Changed the spellbook upgrade catalyst from a Super Morphscale Core to a Morphscale Core. The upgrade interface now explains material requirements, experience, and upgrade effects more clearly.
  • Spellbook casts now consume mana progressively during charging. The full mana cost must still be available at the start; mana already spent is not refunded if casting is interrupted.
  • Improved purification: it immediately interrupts spells and relevant charging abilities, applying their full cooldown. Spellcasting is blocked while purified.
  • Added clearer feedback for damage and action interruptions, insufficient mana or capacity, cooldowns, spellbook switching delays, and invalid targets.
  • Reworked the spellbook HUD layer, repositioned the mana cost display, and improved modified-spell display and cooldown synchronization.
  • Adjusted the base cooldowns and level scaling of several spells, along with the mana cost of Space Recall.

Forms and Combat

  • Added extra damage, control, or defensive effects against non-player creatures for multiple forms, while retaining whitelist protection. These include Axolotl, Snow Fox, Allay, Fallen Allay, Wild Cat, Wind Spirit, Nova, Mancianima, Netherjudge, Moon Weaver, Salticidae, and bat forms.
  • Added Kill Empowerment to SP Familiar Fox and Familiar Fox (Red). Killing an eligible target with a normal ability grants empowerment for 10 seconds, allowing one primary or secondary ability to ignore cooldown and mana requirements. Empowered abilities cannot trigger further empowerment.
  • Adjusted Mancianima's teleport and linked attack mechanics, and strengthened Salticidae's secondary ability.
  • Unified form ability cooldown management. Cooldowns can now be configured to begin on cast, on release, or when the ability ends, with separate cooldowns for failed casts.
  • Expanded datapack support for form and ability balance settings, allowing servers to customize relevant parameters.

Visuals, Audio, and Performance

  • Updated textures for Fluorescent Axolotl, Aling, Mancianima, Netherjudge, Golden Sandstorm (SP), Nova, Frostspine, Salticidae, SP Allay, Wild Cat (SP), Nightmare, Desmodus, and Parasitic Fruit Bat. Also adjusted the body glow intensity of Allay and Fallen Allay forms.
  • Updated the spellbook and Spell Research Table models and textures, the Infusion Altar interface, and icons for the new spells.
  • Doubled the relevant sound propagation ranges for addon spells and form abilities while preserving their volume.
  • Improved first-person particle visibility and transparency rendering, with better handling of certain shader and AsyncParticles configurations.
  • Optimized countdown synchronization, selected frequent state checks, and cached geometry used to render spell circles.

Compatibility and Bug Fixes

  • Added native EMI support and improved JEI / REI displays, descriptions, and ingredient transfer for special recipes.
  • Added crafting or acquisition information for potions, the Axolotl Humidifier, Snowball Launcher, Blizzard Tank, energy bottling, and magical research. Fixed ingredient transfer issues involving missing materials, full inventories, ingredients already in the crafting grid, and additional item data.
  • Fixed wild Axolotl Shifters incorrectly deciding when to return to water, getting stuck while leaving water, and circling during pursuit. Improved reachable-water selection and movement on land and in water.
  • Fixed Salticidae double-jump animation issues, along with validation and cooldown errors affecting some charging abilities when invalidated, changing forms, reloading data, or processing delayed callbacks.
  • Fixed missing damage from Familiar Fox (Red) fireballs, incorrect attribution of foxfire burn damage, and several Domain boundary and display issues.
