SafeSpawn is a lightweight server-side spawn management mod designed to prevent players from becoming trapped in death loops when their spawn location is destroyed, obstructed, or otherwise made unsafe.
Instead of permanently changing where a player belongs, SafeSpawn remembers their original spawn anchor. Whenever they respawn, it checks that location and, if necessary, searches for the closest safe alternative.
This makes it especially useful for challenge maps, minigames, survival servers, custom maps, and destructive Minecraft challenges where the environment around spawn can change during gameplay.
SafeSpawn supports both a managed world spawn and individual player spawns. If a player doesn't have a personal SafeSpawn anchor, they automatically fall back to the managed world spawn.
For example, if every player starts on their own pillar, each player can be assigned their own spawn. If the top of a pillar gets destroyed, SafeSpawn attempts to find another safe position close to that player's original pillar rather than sending them to somebody else's spawn or trapping them in a death loop.
SafeSpawn also supports beds with configurable behaviour. Beds can become a player's managed personal spawn, behave exactly like vanilla Minecraft, or be ignored entirely. Admin-assigned personal spawns can optionally be protected from being overwritten by beds.
Spawns are dimension-aware, so SafeSpawn can manage locations outside the Overworld too.
Getting Started:
- Set the managed world spawn by standing where you want the main spawn anchor and running:
`/sp setworld`
Players without a personal SafeSpawn location will use this anchor. - To assign a player their own spawn, have them stand at their intended spawn and run:
`/sp setplayer <player>` - You can also specify coordinates directly:
`/sp setplayer <player> <x> <y> <z>`
SafeSpawn remembers this location as the player's anchor. If it becomes unsafe, SafeSpawn searches around the anchor rather than permanently moving it.
Both command prefixes work:
/sp
/safespawn
Main Commands:
- /sp setworld - Sets the SafeSpawn world anchor to your current location.
- /sp setplayer <player> - Sets the selected player's personal anchor.
- /sp setplayer <player> <x> <y> <z> - Sets a personal anchor using specific coordinates.
- /sp clearplayer <player> - Removes that player's SafeSpawn personal anchor. They'll fall back to the managed world spawn when applicable.
- /sp status [player] - Shows SafeSpawn information and configured anchors.
- /sp test <player> - Checks where SafeSpawn would currently respawn that player without actually killing them.
- /sp tp <player> - Finds that player's current safe respawn location and teleports them there.
- /sp radius <blocks> - Changes the normal safe-location search radius.
- /sp config - Displays SafeSpawn's configuration options.
- /sp reload - Reloads SafeSpawn's configuration.
Bed Behaviour
Bed handling can be changed through the SafeSpawn configuration.
- PERSONAL - Default
Using a bed can create a personal SafeSpawn anchor. While the bed is intact, normal bed respawning is preserved. If the bed or surrounding area is later destroyed, SafeSpawn remembers where it was and searches for the nearest safe alternative. - VANILLA
Beds use normal Minecraft behaviour. SafeSpawn doesn't convert the bed into a permanent personal anchor. - IGNORE
Beds don't affect SafeSpawn locations. The player's configured personal anchor, or the managed world anchor, continues to be used.
SafeSpawn can also prevent beds from overwriting spawns explicitly assigned by an administrator. With Bed Override Admin disabled by default, a spawn created using /sp setplayer remains protected even if that player later uses a bed.
This mod is only required server side.
