Every villager has a name, and so does every village. Right-click somebody and you get a greeting rather than the trade window. Which greeting depends on their trade and on what the village makes of you. It changes again once you have been here before. Villagers standing near each other hold conversations of their own.
Trading is one click further in and works exactly as it does in vanilla, discounts and restocking included.

- A name for every villager, wandering trader and iron golem. Anyone with a trade is known by it, so when somebody tells you to go and ask the mason, the name they give is one you can find.
- Standing. Six words for what the village makes of you, read off vanilla's own gossip, so it is already local to that village and already moved by the things that should move it.
- A village name, taken from the bell. Two villages either side of a hill have different names, and everyone in each agrees on theirs.
- An inn in every village. Every one, of every type, abandoned ones included, with an innkeeper, a band playing written tunes, the regulars, and a bed for the night.
- Neighbours who talk to each other. Two villagers stood together will hold a conversation over your head, in their own voices.
- Murmurs as you pass: half-thoughts written per trade, so a farmer worries about different things than a cleric.
- A greeting that knows you, chosen from what they trade, what is on their counter, whether you have been here before, and what the village makes of you.
Nothing here is hard-coded. All of it is a datapack file, and a pack of your own outranks every word of it.
