What's new
Rift Gun 0.1.0-beta.3
The third public beta of Rift Gun, focused on portal transit stability, passenger-tree support, Entity Relocation, projectile handling, and unloaded destinations.
Highlights
- Added reliable passenger-tree portal transit for vehicles and their riders.
- Expanded Entity Relocation to support boats, minecarts, dropped items, and complete passenger trees.
- Greatly improved portal and relocation behavior when destinations are located in unloaded chunks.
- Added temporary exit protection for relocated entities to prevent immediate unintended portal re-entry.
- Added optional server-side transit diagnostics for troubleshooting difficult portal failures.
- Fixed several portal bounce-back, collision, exit-placement, and projectile transit edge cases.
Details
Portal Transit
- Passenger trees now preserve their riding structure when passing through portals.
- Added a server option to disable passenger-tree portal transit.
- Fixed players and vehicles briefly reaching an exit before being returned to the entrance.
- Improved exit clearance calculations for entities with different widths and heights.
- Improved synchronization for linked portals whose destination chunks were not already active.
- Fixed fast projectiles occasionally missing thin or floor-mounted portals.
- Fixed projectiles losing momentum when crossing floor-mounted portals.
- Improved projectile exit placement and collision handling.
Entity Relocation
The Entity Relocation Module can now relocate:
- Living entities
- Players
- Projectiles
- Boats and minecarts
- Dropped item entities
- Complete vehicle and passenger trees
When any member of a passenger tree is targeted, relocation begins from its top-level vehicle and attempts to move the complete tree together.
Each member is validated independently against installed modules and player privacy settings. Fuel cost is also calculated for each member.
Passenger-tree relocation includes:
- Configurable enable/disable control.
- Configurable maximum passenger-tree size.
- Whole-tree target locking and cooldown handling.
- Combined destination clearance checks.
- Best-effort riding relationship restoration after partial failures.
- No fuel consumption or cooldown when the tree cannot be transferred completely.
Added a separate configurable utility entity fuel multiplier for vehicles and dropped items.
Unloaded Destinations
- Destination chunks are now prepared and temporarily kept active while portal transit or Entity Relocation is in progress.
- Improved reliability when relocating entities to destinations in unloaded chunks.
- Chunk tickets are automatically released after success, failure, timeout, cancellation, or server shutdown.
- A stalled relocation transaction no longer blocks unrelated portals or relocation attempts.
- Added configurable destination-readiness timeouts.
- The preparing destination message is now delayed slightly to avoid unnecessary feedback during short chunk loads.
Exit Protection
Relocated non-player entities now receive temporary protection from normal portal exits after arriving at their destination.
This prevents entities relocated near a shared destination from immediately entering another portal exit and being transported away again.
The duration is configurable:
[entityRelocation]
exitPortalImmunityTicks = 100
Diagnostics
Added optional server-side portal transit diagnostics for troubleshooting difficult portal and relocation failures.
Diagnostics can report:
- Portal routing decisions
- Entity Relocation lifecycle events
- Chunk-ticket activity
- Transit failure details
- Short post-transit verification checks
Diagnostics are disabled by default and do not perform additional diagnostic scans or probes while disabled.
Enable them with:
[debug]
enableTransitDiagnostics = true
New Server Configuration
[portal]
enablePassengerTreeTransit = true
[entityRelocation]
enablePassengerTreeRelocation = true
maximumPassengerTreeSize = 16
destinationReadinessTimeoutTicks = 100
exitPortalImmunityTicks = 100
[entityRelocation.fuelMultipliers]
utility = 1.0
[debug]
enableTransitDiagnostics = false
Fixes
- Fixed several portal bounce-back cases affecting players, vehicles, and passenger trees.
- Fixed portal collision and exit-clearance edge cases for entities with unusual dimensions.
- Fixed several projectile transit issues involving thin and floor-mounted portals.
- Improved cleanup and failure handling for interrupted Entity Relocation transactions.
- Improved portal and Entity Relocation behavior around unloaded destination chunks.
Requirements
- Minecraft
1.21.1 - NeoForge
21.1.140+ - Java
21 - The same Rift Gun version must be installed on both the client and server.
There are no required runtime dependencies other than NeoForge. JEI and RyoamicLights integrations are optional.
Beta Notice
This is a beta release. Back up your worlds before upgrading.
Known limitations:
- Complex vehicle and passenger trees may still encounter edge cases when interacting with other mods that modify riding or entity teleportation behavior.
- Very large passenger trees may require additional destination space and can fail relocation if a safe placement cannot be found.
