I. Overview

Retrospect · Dimensions is a Minecraft mod built around worldview reconstruction and free exploration. It is not a simple piling of new content; rather, it reconstructs the underlying framework to build a self-consistent, narrative‑rich multiverse.

The mod emphasises a “achievements and exploration in parallel” free‑form mode — all gameplay features are available without unlocking any achievement; achievements serve only as records and proofs of your journey. This design lets every player discover the world’s secrets at their own pace, without being forced along a linear path.

The current version is 0.0.6, marking the transition of the dimension Between Discs from a prototype to a fully realised state, with deep integration of achievement systems and narrative experience.


II. Between Discs

Dimensional Positioning

Between Discs is a mysterious realm that exists in the cracks between worlds – the key stage for the Retrospect · Dimensions storyline. As the first new dimension introduced by the mod, it serves as a pivotal narrative bridge and will eventually completely replace the former “Realm of Memories” after further development.

Access Method

To step into Between Discs, players must first complete at least 30 vanilla achievements to unlock the guiding achievement “Exit” . Afterwards, they can use the red‑quality summoning item “Disc · Minecraft” to directly summon the portal structure.

Portal Design

Responding to enthusiastic community votes, the Between Discs portal features a magnificent gigantic scale with structures and materials that blend seamlessly with Minecraft’s vanilla art style. The portal comes with exclusive dynamic animations for activation, maintenance, and traversal, along with brand‑new particle effects, greatly enhancing the ritualistic feel of dimensional travel.

Dimensional Characteristics

  • Flight Mode: Upon entering Between Discs, players automatically gain creative‑mode flight, facilitating free exploration and future construction planning.
  • Unique Rules: This dimension has its own distinct gameplay rules, offering a stark contrast to the Overworld.

III. Items & Artifacts

Golden‑Quality Item: “Epoch”

“Epoch” is a deeply narrative‑driven core resource:

  • Acquisition: Directly tied to the total number of advancements the player has earned — the more achievements collected, the more “Epoch” is granted during daily settlement.
  • Unique Mechanism: Each player receives “Epoch” with exclusive flavour text that is dynamically generated based on acquisition time and player name – symbolising that “every piece of Epoch you obtain is a fragment of information recorded by time itself”.
  • Usage: Currently used as fuel for the Steel Monolith; more consumption paths will be added in future.

Steel Monolith (Golden Quality)

A special beacon with a field effect:

  • Energy Consumption: Requires “Epoch” to maintain operation.
  • Core Effect: Applies the “Steel Dome” effect to all players within its range, which restricts the use of certain mod items and traits – ideal for defining safe zones, challenge areas, or custom rules.

Xirang (Green Quality)

A mythical self‑growing soil:

  • Function: Freely shapes terrain and creates safe platforms.
  • Guiding Advancement: Added the advancement “Expand Territory” to teach players how to use Xirang effectively.

Blade of Absence

A conceptually peculiar weapon whose flavour text – “I think, therefore the sword is not” – hints that it does not exist in a conventional form. Its actual function may relate to “defining” or “negating” certain existences.

Music Disc “The Guide – Lin Moming” (Golden Quality)

A new golden‑quality music disc that can be played on a jukebox. The track is also available on major music platforms (e.g., NetEase Cloud, QQ Music) for high‑quality listening.


IV. Achievements

Core Rules

  • Gameplay Separated from Achievements: All gameplay updates and trait changes are available without unlocking achievements. Unlocking serves only as a “certificate” and does not lock content.
  • Hidden Achievement Unlocking: To record and unlock hidden achievements, players must first complete the guiding achievement “Exit” (i.e., have entered Between Discs).

Milestone Rewards

  • 30‑Achievement Milestone: Upon completing 30 vanilla achievements, players earn a red‑quality summoning item “Disc · Minecraft” to summon the Between Discs portal.
  • Hidden Achievement Rewards: All vanilla hidden achievements now also grant extra “Disc · Minecraft” items upon unlock.
  • Future Plans: More achievement‑count milestones will gradually join the reward system.

  • Temperament: Friendly, with unique interactions with the player.

Obtained by interacting with Milk Cap; has special drinking effects (beyond normal milk).


VI. Immersion

Daily Quote

At 00:00 (server time) every day, the system randomly pushes a quote from the mod’s lore into the chat, allowing players to absorb the deep story of Retrospect · Dimensions during their everyday adventures.


VII. Future Plans

Version 0.0.7 and Beyond

  • New Dimension “Stellar Abyss”: Planned to introduce basic biomes, a dedicated portal and traversal animations, a new status effect “Drowning” (with mechanics different from vanilla), several archipelago biomes, and the first batch of Stellar Abyss creatures and bosses.
  • Complete Process: A full, ritual‑rich procedure to enter Between Discs will replace the temporary achievement‑based method.
  • Portal Animations: Custom visual animations for dimensional travel.

Long‑Term Roadmap

  • A new dimension “Zhanghe” has been officially added to the future update list.
  • More hidden achievements and corresponding trait changes related to vanilla gameplay are planned.
