What's new

Main update: no more seams along chunk borders on cliffs with mods that repaint mountain surfaces, such as William Wythers' Overhauled Overworld.

ReTerraForged 0.0.17 for Minecraft 26.3 (NeoForge and Fabric). Requires Java 25. A fork of ReTerraForged (racoonman2 / TerraForged), LGPL-3.0-only.

What's new in 0.0.17:

  • No more seams along chunk borders on cliffs (#2). With mods that repaint mountain surfaces, such as William Wythers' Overhauled Overworld, the rock of steep slopes came out in chunk-sized squares and a grid of stripes, worse with higher vertical or horizontal scales. The erosion (rock, gravel and scree on steep slopes) ran as a feature of each chunk and overwrote what the features of neighbour chunks generated earlier had already placed there. It now runs while the chunk's surface is built, before any feature. Terrain heights do not change; without such mods only about 0.2 % of the ground blocks differ, at chunk borders. Existing worlds keep their chunks, and there is no seam at the edge of the explored area. ReTerraForged 0.0.6 has the same bug.
  • No more spawning in water. With large continents (for example the continent scale set high on the preset screen) the world spawn could land in a lake or the open sea: the spawn search took rivers and lakes for land, and within 2048 blocks of the search center there was only ocean. Water is now kept out of the spawn search, and when the nearest land is further away the search goes out to 8192 blocks. Only new worlds are affected (the spawn is picked once, when a world is created).
  • Only the generation of the original ReTerraForged 0.0.6. The "Original Generation (0.0.6)" switch in Miscellaneous is gone, and with it the 1.21.1 port's variant of the generation it turned off (one biome for a whole mountain region with snowy peaks next to deserts, rivers and lakes fading out on high ground, villages on mountains, sandstone desert slopes, bushes, higher cave biomes). Default and the other built-in presets already used 0.0.6's generation: their worlds are unchanged, block for block. A saved preset that still has the setting loads fine, the setting is ignored.
  • Sea level tooltip explains what extreme values do: near the bottom of the world the land stays bare stone; with a high sea level raise the world height too, or mountains are cut off at the top of the world. In all 11 languages.

Tested: real NeoForge 26.3.0.76 and Fabric 0.19.5 + Fabric API 0.162.0 servers, the self test (24 checks: terrain, sea, spawn on dry land, the mod's trees, bee nests, bedrock, the Nether and the End also 5000 blocks out, dungeons, mobs, the structure page, presets of older versions) and every overworld structure near the spawn. On 1.21.1 also the test plan of FreeTerraForged: special seeds (0, a text seed, the largest and smallest numbers), extreme sea and lava levels, a world made through the preset screen against one from the exported datapack (identical), NeoForge against Fabric (identical), worlds of 0.0.9 and 0.0.14 opened with this version (no seams), the same terrain with Biomes O' Plenty. On every version also William Wythers' Overhauled Overworld (except 1.21.3, where it does not exist): no seams on its mountains, NeoForge and Fabric.

Known issues: worlds made with fork versions before 0.0.11 used the 1.21.1 port's generation; their new chunks now follow 0.0.6 and may show a seam at the border. Extreme sea levels (see the tooltip). With William Wythers' Overhauled Overworld its forests grow its own trees instead of the ReTerraForged ones; on Fabric it needs Fabric Loader 0.18.5 or newer. Report problems at https://github.com/Vladeezyy/reterraforged/issues.

Singleplayer: Create World → World tab → Customize → pick a preset → Done (without this the world will be vanilla). The "experimental settings" warning is normal, press Proceed.

Server: put the jar into mods/, and for a new world the preset datapack reterraforged-preset-26.3.zip (from this release) into world/datapacks/ before the first start.
