Realistic Torches (Reborn)
Realistic Torches changes early-game survival by reworking how torches function. Instead of being permanent, freely placed light sources, torches now require maintenance, proper lighting, and eventual replacement—encouraging a more deliberate progression toward stable lighting solutions.
Features
- Torches are crafted in an unlit state
- Unlit torches must be ignited using flint and steel or a matchbox (configurable)
- Torches will burn out after a configurable real-time duration (default: 60 minutes)
- Torches are extinguished when exposed to rain
- Torches generated in vanilla structures are replaced with unlit versions
- Option to craft permanent torches using glowstone-based recipes
- Fully configurable mechanics for modpack balance and customization
About This Mod
Realistic Torches is designed to make early survival more immersive by removing the assumption that light sources are permanent.

Original Mod
Realistic Torches was originally developed for earlier versions of Minecraft as a survival-focused lighting overhaul that introduced torch burnout, environmental extinguishing, and early-game lighting progression changes.
This port brings those core mechanics forward into modern Minecraft (Fabric and NeoForge 1.21.1+), preserving the original gameplay intent while updating it for current modloader and engine versions.
