A unicorn lives in the flowery corners of the world. It runs, but not on the ground: it gallops through the sky, and under its hooves it lays a rainbow - seven bands of glowing, translucent blocks that hold for a few seconds and fade behind it. You can stand on the rainbow while it lasts.
Catch one, tame it the way you would a horse, put a saddle on it, and the sky is yours: look up to climb, look down to dive, and the rainbow keeps forming beneath you.

A sky gallop with a rainbow behind it — A wild unicorn picks a point 10-24 blocks away and 8-20 above the ground, runs there in a gentle arc, and picks the next. Every block it covers lays a row of seven rainbow blocks two blocks behind its hooves. The blocks glow, are walkable, and clean themselves up after about four seconds.
Catch it with a golden apple — Anything that tempts a horse (golden apples, golden carrots) brings a unicorn down out of the sky to your hand. Feeding it raises its temper; so does staying on its back.
Tame it like a horse, in the air — Climb on and hold on. An untamed unicorn keeps galloping with you aboard and rolls its temper every couple of seconds; lose the roll and it throws you off - with slow falling, so the landing is a float rather than a fall. Win it and it is yours.
Ride it through the sky — With a saddle on, the rider steers. Forward and strafe as on a horse; where you look is where you climb or dive, and the jump key is pure lift. Stepping off in the sky gives you slow falling too.
A unicorn of your own stays put — A tamed unicorn stops running the sky. It floats down to the ground under it, wanders a little as a horse does, and waits where you left it.
Its own inventory — Shift-use a tamed unicorn (or press the inventory key while riding) for its screen: the saddle and horse-armour slots, a nine-slot saddlebag that travels with it, a live preview of the unicorn and its health.
Rare natural spawns — Unicorns spawn on their own, rarely, in meadows, cherry groves and flower forests - about one in six of the animals a meadow spawns. The spawn egg is in the creative menu for everyone else.

How do I get one down from the sky?
Hold a golden apple or a golden carrot. A unicorn within about ten blocks comes to you.
It keeps throwing me off.
That is the taming. Each throw raises its temper by five, and feeding it raises it too (a golden apple is worth ten). At sixty it gives in; a horse needs a hundred.
How do I go up and down while riding?
Look up while moving forward to climb, look down to dive, and hold the jump key for straight lift. Sneak to get off - you float down.
Can I stand on the rainbow?
Yes, while it lasts. Each row fades about four seconds after it was laid.
Does it work on a server?
Yes. Install it on both sides; the rainbow is real blocks and the taming is server-side.

Model and gait are the vanilla horse's, with a horn modelled in Blockbench. Built and tested against a running game with the MCP Toolkit. Development notes are in DEVELOPING.md.
