RAMAdvisor: The Smart Way to Stop Minecraft Lag
Are you tired of your game stuttering, freezing, or crashing because your computer is either starved for memory or choking on too much of it? Deciding whether you need 2GB, 4GB, or 8GB of RAM shouldn't feel like rocket science.
Meet RAMAdvisor—a lightweight, beginner-friendly client-side mod that figures out the exact number of megabytes your specific modpack needs so you can play buttery smooth. No more guessing, no more random technical jargon.
🚀 How It Works (In 2 Simple Steps!)
- Start the Test: Type
/ramadvisor(or use the quick aliases/mtor/memtest) in your chat. - Play the Game:
- Step 1: A quick 30-second baseline stress test to see how your game can handle your RAM and how can your RAM handle the game.
- Step 2: A 10-minute gameplay session where it quietly watches your memory in the background.
- Get Your Magic Number: Once the timer finishes, you’ll get a clean report telling you your exact target MB allocation (e.g.,
-Xmx1500M) and a direct link to a guide showing you how to update your launcher's allocated RAM!
Need to bail out halfway through? Just type /ramadvisor cancel.
🔧 Technical Details (For Advanced Users & Modpack Developers)
- Environment: Strictly client-side (
environment: client), requiring zero server-side installation or mixins. - Analysis Engine: Bypasses crude mean-average calculations. Instead, it aggregates heap allocation samples over a 10-minute window and computes the 95th percentile peak memory usage to accurately filter out momentary outlier spikes without risking garbage collection stutters.
- Safety Cushion: Applies an optimized 300 MB safety buffer on top of the 95th percentile peak to ensure JVM headroom under heavy dynamic chunk loading and entity rendering.
- Command Architecture: Built on the modern Mojang Brigadier command dispatcher via Fabric API (
ClientCommandRegistrationCallback), featuring multi-alias routing (/ramadvisor,/mt,/memtest), state-machine safety guards (TestStatetrackingIDLE,STRESS_TEST,GAMEPLAY_TEST), and native rich-text clickable URI components.
