Primeval Works

Automate,tame,ride historic monsters!

Primeval Works

Primeval Works is a NeoForge automation and companion mod built around prehistoric creatures

Discover eggs, hatch dinosaurs, build a functioning base, assign specialized work, explore with followers, breed stronger bloodlines, and develop ancient technology. Every companion is a persistent creature with its own identity, level, genetics, needs, abilities, work history, and place in your crew.

The goal is to make automation feel alive. Items are physically transported, dinosaurs travel to their stations, turbines are worked in the world, expeditions take real time, and every system connects back to the same base.

in depth below!

Discover and Hatch Dinosaurs

Dinosaur eggs can be discovered through exploration and progression. Small, Big, and Large eggs contain different weighted species pools, with rare dinosaurs appearing at lower odds.

Eggs can be placed directly in the world and hatched, preserved with Silk Touch, or improved through the Premium Egg Incubator.

If an egg is hatched before you own a Command Table, the dinosaur is safely recorded in your future depot. It will not spawn without a base or disappear. Once a table is built, the dinosaur can be equipped manually.

The current roster includes:

Tyrannosaurus

Triceratops

Velociraptor

Stegosaurus

Parasaurolophus

Pteranodon

Field Dodo

Spinosaurus

Each species has its own model, animations, size, health, movement, diet, work strengths, combat behavior, passive ability, and field specialty.

⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺

The Command Table

The Command Table is the center of your base.

It manages your active crew, depot, recovery area, work assignments, expeditions, energy network, upgrades, and follower capacity. Dinosaurs keep the same identity as they move between these systems.

A new base begins with seven active companion slots. Progression can unlock a second crew page for a total of fourteen active dinosaurs. The depot supports up to twenty five pages, allowing large collections without filling the world with unused entities.

Moving or replacing a Command Table keeps the correct active crew while leaving reserve dinosaurs safely inside the depot. Old work locations and field routes cannot pull followers back toward a previous base.

Living Companions

Dinosaurs are more than workers. Each companion has:

Hunger

Mood

Health

Level and experience

Birth quality

Natural size variation

Color variation

Mutations

Species specific abilities

Dinosaurs eat from Food Boxes, sleep when safe, look around naturally, react to danger, recover from ordinary defeats, and remember their state after leaving the world.

Their movement and animation respond to actual speed. The head begins a turn before the body follows, locomotion continues during compatible actions, and larger creatures use movement suited to their scale.

⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺

Levels, Quality, and Mutations

Companions earn experience by completing useful work. Higher levels improve their field capacity and allow stronger dinosaurs to handle larger Quarry selections.

Birth quality affects the dinosaur’s long term potential. Better quality provides small improvements to work, movement, needs, and inherited traits without making lower quality dinosaurs useless.

Two rare mutations can appear:

Huge increases physical size, health, strength, movement, and work ability.

Albino provides a powerful work and movement bonus while reducing health. The original texture shading remains visible beneath the altered pigmentation.

A dinosaur can inherit one mutation, both mutations, or neither.

Base Automation

Primeval Works contains five complete base jobs.

Transport

Transport workers move real item stacks between inventories.

Sources and destinations can include chests, double chests, Ancient Barrels, Food Boxes, furnaces, processors, and other supported containers. Routes can use item filters, exact matching, tag matching, reserves, destination targets, batch sizes, priorities, and fallback storage.

The carried item and stack count remain visible above the dinosaur during travel.

Fire

Fire workers operate furnaces and heat based machines. They can manage fuel and processing routes while Transport workers keep the system supplied.

Energy

Energy workers operate turbines connected to the Command Table’s energy network. Each source is assigned through the Energy Map and contributes power to the shared reserve.

Crafting

Crafting workers use real ingredients from base storage. They travel to Crafting Tables, complete queued recipes, and place the result into the selected destination.

Expedition

Expedition workers leave the base for a timed journey. Higher tiers provide more valuable rewards but require stronger preparation and better companions.

Dinosaurs on an expedition cannot be duplicated, recalled early, deleted, or moved through another lifecycle state.

⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺

The Dino Whistle

The Dino Whistle controls work that takes place outside the base.

Right clicking the whistle opens a compact configuration menu where you can choose an available order, behavior, range, and item filter. Only specialties currently available through your following companions are shown.

The default follower capacity begins at one and reaches three through Field Command upgrades. Server owners can configure the starting amount, upgrade gain, and final cap up to four.

⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺

Field Specialties

Quarry

Tyrannosaurus and Spinosaurus can perform Quarry work.

Connected Quarry begins from one selected block and follows matching connected material.

Area Quarry uses two opposite corners and clears the selected volume. The first corner remains visible while the second is chosen. Valid areas appear green, while areas beyond the selected dinosaur’s level appear red and display the required level.

Active Quarry regions remain subtly visible while work continues.

Lumber

Parasaurolophus handles Lumber work.

Select one connected tree and the dinosaur will find the lowest safe trunk it can reach. The tree is then felled quickly from the bottom upward.

Harvest

Field Dodos handle crop work.

Harvest is a passive assignment. The dinosaur searches its chosen area for mature crops, harvests them, and replants them automatically.

Collect

Velociraptors handle loose item retrieval.

Collect is also passive. The dinosaur searches within its saved leash, picks up matching loose items, and delivers them when the owner returns within range. The filter uses a searchable creative style catalogue, allowing exact items to be selected without consuming them.

⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺

Home, Stay, and Follow

Every active companion has three saved command modes.

Home keeps the dinosaur inside its base and allows normal assigned work.

Stay holds the dinosaur near its selected position.

Follow joins the player’s field crew and enables Dino Whistle specialties.

Followers defend their owner according to their combat capabilities. Tyrannosaurus and Spinosaurus can proactively engage nearby threats while idle. Other combat capable species join after their owner attacks. Dinosaurs never abandon an active job to begin unnecessary combat.

Followers run, swim, or fly when they fall behind. Safe teleport recovery is reserved for genuine navigation failures or extreme separation.

⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺

Flying and Swimming Mounts

Pteranodon and Spinosaurus can become fully controlled mounts.

Pteranodon

Pteranodon flight includes acceleration, turning, banking, hovering, gliding, diving, stamina, speed based field of view, and animated rider placement.

A Transport Pteranodon can fly when a ground route is impractical or when its destination is elevated.

Spinosaurus

Spinosaurus provides smooth underwater movement with pitch and bank steering, surface travel, reduced rider oxygen loss, high speed breaches, and a separate stamina based land sprint.

Its land movement follows uneven terrain without relying on repeated jumping, and mounted attacks are synchronized with the animation’s contact point.

Mounting a dinosaur automatically places it into Follow through the normal follower system. It remains with the player after dismounting instead of returning to a distant bas

⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺

Energy and Turbines

Primeval Works uses a cable free base energy network.

Power sources and machines are connected from the Command Table’s Energy Map. Devices outside the base cannot be assigned to or powered by that base.

Wind Turbines

Wind Turbines provide early power and can later be upgraded through the Processor using a Pteranodon Wing Fragment.

Water Turbines

Water Turbines generate a small amount of passive energy while correctly submerged. Assigning an Energy worker increases their output.

A worked Water Turbine can also turn two nearby submerged turbines. The first linked turbine generates fifty five percent output, while the second generates thirty five percent. The effect does not chain infinitely.

Generation is intentionally balanced so one machine cannot power an entire late game base.

⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺

Machines and Ancient Technology

Processor

The Processor refines ancient materials, compresses components, creates Magic Shards, and upgrades important technology.

Ancient Furnace

The Ancient Furnace uses more energy in exchange for faster processing. Its power draw changes with its physical throttle.
|

Premium Egg Incubator

The Premium Egg Incubator preserves its timer across reloads and improves the egg’s final quality and mutation potential. The real egg remains visible inside the machine.

Laser Observer

The Laser Observer watches a five block line and emits a redstone pulse when a clear part of that line detects an update.

Laser Turret

The Laser Turret tracks visible hostile targets and fires a synchronized multihit beam. It cannot attack through walls and only requests energy while it has a real target.

Ancient Spell Stone

The Ancient Spell Stone is a silent powered ward. While connected and supplied with energy, it prevents hostile spawn checks within twenty blocks.

It has no separate menu. Right clicking an unpowered stone explains whether it needs a Command Table, an Energy Map connection, or stored energy.

⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺

Breeding and Inheritance

Breeding requires two owned dinosaurs of the same species, two Nesting Treats, sufficient hunger, good mood, and completed breeding cooldowns.

The parents walk toward one another, complete their courtship, and place the resulting egg on supported ground nearby.

Birth quality is inherited from the parents’ average with a small improvement. Each parent carrying Huge or Albino has an independent chance to pass that mutation. The chance improves with the parent’s level and birth quality.

If no safe placement exists, the egg is protected as a ground item instead of being lost.

⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺

Recovery and Permanent Loss

Ordinary combat defeat does not immediately erase an owned dinosaur.

A defeated companion returns to the depot’s recovery section and becomes available again after its recovery timer. Active, depot, expedition, and recovery states are kept separate so the same dinosaur cannot exist in multiple places.

An intentional player kill is treated differently. It permanently removes the dinosaur and awards the relevant materials.

⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺

Progression and Expeditions

Progression begins with exploration, eggs, basic companions, Food Boxes, and simple work routes.

A developed base opens larger crews, stronger field command, improved energy storage, faster production, better expeditions, ancient refinement, advanced incubation, upgraded turbines, powered defense, Magic Shards, compressed materials, and the Primordial Sword.

Expeditions provide materials that do not belong in ordinary early recipes, including:

Ember Berries

Fossil Fragments

Hardwood

Silk

Sulfur

Nesting Treats

Pteranodon Wing Fragments

Tyrannosaurus Teeth

Ancient Cores

Raw Ancient Metal

Magic Shard Fragments

The rarest expedition tier can also provide an extremely uncommon Compressed Core reward.

⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺

Multiplayer and Save Safety

Primeval Works is server authoritative.

Ownership, commands, follower limits, work assignments, inventories, energy, breeding, genetics, expeditions, recovery, cargo, and field orders are validated by the server.

Each dinosaur has one persistent UUID and one authoritative lifecycle record. Login restoration loads existing entities before recreating anything missing, preventing duplicate companions after chunk unloads or server restarts.

Players cannot command another player’s dinosaurs, use another base’s inventories, connect distant machines, or assign work outside their own base.

Nearby bases use a stable nearest table rule, and Command Tables require enough spacing to prevent overlapping automation networks.

⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺⸺

Configuration

Client configuration controls presentation features such as interface sound, mount field of view, heavy footsteps, banking, stamina displays, hatch cards, and Pteranodon wind effects.

Server configuration controls gameplay values such as follower capacity, needs, recovery, breeding, mutation rates, work speed, transport, energy production, machine costs, expeditions, mounts, combat, and defense.

Server settings remain authoritative in multiplayer.
