POSIX and DOS Computers

Description

Minecraft mod that adds Disk Operating System (DOS) Computers with BASIC programming language.

Available computers with the following Operating Systems are:

• IBM PC/AT (MS-DOS 3.3)
• IBM PC/AT (MS-DOS 6.0)

Each opeating system is proceeded with its own fully-working command line environment. To list commands type HELP.

After computer block is placed, any player can use it and create directories,files; edit files; execute files.
Virtual File System is present. It's saved as NBT data per each computer block. This means if you've placed a computer block then all files (with contents) and directories will be there for all eternity until you destroy said block.

Mod does not emulate real .COM, .EXE execution and Bash environment. Therefore there is no concerns for safety. Any real-life malicious code would not work here.

Is this virtualizatoin/emulation?

No, no at all. It's basically an literal operating system implementation, COW (Character Oriented Windows), executables (with headers), environment variables, communication, CLI and TUI in pure Java.

Driver and custom devices support system.

This mod can communicate with custom devices and blocks that act as devices the computer block can connect to. Imagine block "Command Translator" (which will translate and allow to execute Minecraft commands directly from DOS shell in a computer block), if connected to computer block with MS-DOS 6.0 then MS-DOS 6.0 is able to connect to that device and use it using the specialized driver (if installed)

Additionally, multiple computer blocks can communicate (using UUIDs as IP addresses) with each other as in "Internet". (if these computer blocks have operating system that supports and have installed networking driver); E-mail agents can be used.

To prevent confusion: Drivers and custom devices are fully written on Java. This is full operating system implementation on Java within Minecraft mod bounds.

Shell syntax interpreters and Programming languages.

Currently supported shell syntax dialects with their own features for each Operating System:

• Thompson (UNIX v6)
• Thompson (UNIX v5)
• Bourne (UNIX v7)
• Bash (POSIX with GNU extensions such as && || ! [[ ... ]])
• POSIX (IEEE 1003.1, 1988+)
• MS-DOS COMMAND.COM syntax (Supports > >> < | and ;)

Supported programming languages with their tools:

• QBASIC (MS-DOS 6.0)
• GWBASIC (MS-DOS 3.3)

Addons system.

This mod will support addons (the way Create mod has addons such as Create Aeronautics). Therefore you will be able to create your own custom operating system processors, your own TUI applications (API is provided to easily build the interface), your own drivers, your own devices and device blocks.

Future

1. Add addon support. I would make it so you can write your own .COM/.EXE/whatever executables on Java. You know QBASIC is an executable but it's actually tied into Java class. That's how the TUI is rendered with menus and dialogue windows.
2. Add networking. Imagine Computer Block A has UUID (virtual IP address) and Computer Block B has UUID. Imagine Computer Block A can ping Computer Block B (if both blocks are on chunks that are loaded). What about file transfer though? What about communication channels (e.g. e-mail agents)? That would be so cool.
3. Add Research Unix by Bell Labs. Add GNU/Linux (busybox-like)
4. Add IBM mainframces with peripherals such as teletype, punch card reader, line printer and etc.
