v0.5 — The Realm

Until now a country had money and land. Now it also has a state, as in the grand strategy games of Paradox: how stable it is, how much its citizens accept the leader and how much the world respects it. Every decision changes that state, and every number in the menu tells you why it is what it is.

⚖️ Stability, Legitimacy, Prestige

  • Stability (−3…+3). Every economy cycle peace, having no debts, a recognised ruler and good diplomatic ties push it up; war, bankruptcy, too much new land, a high federal tax and restless cities pull it down. Events give a one-off push: a lost war, a changed law, a city breaking away, going bankrupt. Each level changes tax income by 5%. At −3 the country falls apart: mayors may secede whatever the tax.
  • Restore order. The leader can spend treasury money for a push toward the next level (/politicsmod realm stabilize or the + button on the Overview tab). It is cheapest in a crisis and has a cooldown.
  • Legitimacy (0–100) grows with time in power and follows the share of the vote at leader elections. A petition against the leader, bankruptcy and disorder erode it. A recognised ruler (80+) brings more tax; a doubted one (below 30) less tax, more unrest and falling stability.
  • Prestige (−100…100) comes from won sieges and wars, new cities and annexed villages, and is lost with defeats and secessions. It fades slowly. Prestige raises embassy income and lowers the price of land.
  • /politicsmod realm shows it all in chat, with the reasons on hover.

🏙️ Cities as Provinces

  • Development. A city's development grows with the money invested in it (Map tab, or /politicsmod city develop <city>: the leader pays from the national treasury, the city's mayor from the city treasury) and with its tax blocks (one level per two blocks, up to 5). Each level adds 3% to the tax of the city's blocks and lowers its unrest.
  • Unrest (0–100) of each city comes from the federal tax, stability, new land inside the city, war, a siege, bankruptcy and a doubted ruler; development and martial law calm it. Above 50 the city's tax blocks bring less; at 75 its mayor may secede whatever the tax, and the news reports the city is close to revolt.

🗺️ Cores

  • Newly claimed land is not a core at first: its tax blocks bring half (nonCoreTaxPercent) and it adds unrest. After 80 cycles (4 hours of server time, coreCycles) it becomes a core. The founding area is a core from the start.
  • A lot of non-core land at once lowers stability: expand, then let the land settle.
  • Land lost while it was a core stays remembered as a lost core; taking it back makes it a core at once. (Wars over lost cores come in 0.8.) A seceding city keeps its cores as its homeland.
  • Worlds from 0.4 keep all their land as cores.

📊 Modifiers and Explanations

  • Every bonus and penalty — laws, stability, legitimacy, prestige, events — is a modifier with a source. Tax income, embassy income, upkeep, land price and siege time are all counted through them.
  • Hover the tax, embassy or upkeep line on the Economy tab, the stability, legitimacy or prestige card, or a city on the Overview tab to see every part of the number.
  • Operators can add timed modifiers for server events: /politicsmod modifier add <type> <percent> <minutes> "<name>" <country>, list <country>, remove <id> <country>.

🧭 The Dashboard

  • Overview: stability, legitimacy and prestige cards with their trend; each city shows its development and unrest.
  • Map modes: relations, countries, income, stability, unrest, cores (with lost cores) and settlements. The hover card shows what the mode says about the chunk. The Map tab also has a button to develop the selected city.
  • New Ledger tab: every country side by side (land, citizens, development, stability, prestige), sortable; and a graph of the last in-game days for your country and one you pick: land, citizens, development, stability, legitimacy, prestige, and for your own country the treasury and daily income. One point is added every dawn (ledgerHistoryDays).
  • Alerts: icons in the dashboard header for what needs attention — debt, a treasury running out, a siege, falling stability, too much non-core land, restless cities, an election to vote in, a petition, waiting proposals and loan offers. Hover for details, click to open the right tab.
  • The daily report at dawn now also shows stability, legitimacy and prestige.
  • Two new pages in the guide book.

🌍 Four New Languages

  • Czech, Swedish, Vietnamese and Indonesian. PoliticsMod now speaks 20 languages.

🎨 New Block Textures

  • Every block of the mod is redrawn at the vanilla scale of 16 pixels per block, so it sits naturally next to Minecraft blocks: a steel vault with a round brass door, a marble tax pillar with gold and a coin slot, a market stall with a striped awning and crates of goods, a half-timbered house with windows, flower boxes and a tiled roof, a table with a parchment city map, an embassy banner with a gold emblem, a white flagpole, a radar with a blinking beacon, and a founding stone with glowing runes.
  • The founding stone no longer shimmers, and its rings no longer pass through each other or through the core: the inner ring now turns around the vertical axis and the core is a little smaller. The other models are unchanged.

⚙️ For Server Owners

  • The whole layer can be switched off with realmEnabled: false: the economy then works as in 0.4 (laws and operator modifiers still apply).
  • New config keys: realmEnabled, startingStability, stabilityTaxPercent, stabilityProgressPerLevel, stabilizeBaseCost, stabilizeProgress, stabilizeCooldownMinutes, coreCycles, nonCoreTaxPercent, developmentCost, maxDevelopment, developmentTaxPercent, unrestSecedeThreshold, prestigeDecayPerMille, ledgerHistoryDays.
  • New permission node politicsmod.command.realm; /politicsmod modifier needs politicsmod.command.admin.
  • World data format 4 (cores, cycle count, ledger history); 0.4 worlds open without changes.
