PixelBudget

Up to 2x fps on Retina Macs and other high-DPI screens: Minecraft renders at standard resolution instead of four times the pixels. Can also lower just the world's render resolution and keep the HUD sharp. Client-side.

What's new

Added

  • PixelBudget draws the 3D world at a resolution of its own, with menus, the HUD and text left at the window's resolution. The size is a percentage of the window (10% to 200%), a fixed width and height, or a pixel count that stays the same when the window is resized, with Performance, Balanced and Quality presets.
  • On a high-DPI screen (a Retina display, a 4K laptop screen) the whole game is drawn at standard resolution by default, which makes it a lot faster there. Menus and text look as on a screen without Retina. /pixelbudget window full or the settings keep the screen's full sharpness; it applies when the game starts.
  • On a high-DPI screen the world is drawn at no more than 2560 × 1440 worth of pixels by default. On an ordinary screen it stays at the window's size. The limit is a setting, /pixelbudget auto <megapixels> and -Dpixelbudget.auto.
  • The F3 screen shows the size the world is drawn at, under the display's size.
  • PixelBudget comes in English and Dutch.
  • Sharp or smooth stretching of the world to the window.
  • A settings screen (with YACL installed), /pixelbudget commands and -Dpixelbudget.* launch options. Changes apply straight away and are saved; launch options win for that launch only.
