Your character gets better, not just your gear. PathCraft RPG adds tabletop-style character building to Minecraft: pick a race and a class, spend points on skills, choose feats and spells, and level up from 1 to 20 by playing the game you already know.
Every system hooks into things you already do. Your Mining skill sets how fast you dig. Your class decides whether you brew better potions, enchant better gear, tame faster or hit harder. The smithing table, brewing stand and enchanting table all learn new tricks.
Inspired by the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, 1st Edition. Unofficial fan project, see the bottom of the page.
What's in it
- 7 races: Human, Elf, Dwarf, Gnome, Halfling, Half-Elf and Half-Orc. Small races are actually small, and some races see in the dark.
- 12 classes: Fighter, Barbarian, Paladin, Ranger, Rogue, Monk, Cleric, Druid, Bard, Sorcerer, Wizard and Alchemist, each with its own powers up to level 20.
- 266 spells from cantrips up to the 9th level, including teleports, summons, walls, storms, and Wish.
- 118 feats and 130 class talents, plus 26 skills that do real work: mining, woodcutting, farming, fishing, lockpicking, healing, stealth and more.
- Six ability scores (Strength, Dexterity, Constitution, Intelligence, Wisdom, Charisma) that change your health, armor, attack and skills.
- New workstations: the Arcane Forge (wands, staffs, rings and other magic gear) and the Alchemist's Lab (bombs, mutagens, extracts).
- Masterwork and magic gear with ring, cloak, belt and amulet slots (through Curios).
- Companions and pets: animal companions, familiars and summoned allies that fight beside you.
- Locks, traps and loot: locked chests, traps to find and disarm, and magic items as treasure.
- Gods and domains for clerics, with gods made for this mod.
- A 400-page in-game guide, the Field Guide, written for Minecraft players and not rules lawyers (needs Patchouli).

How it plays
- You start a bit weaker. A new character has about 7 hearts and digs a little slower than normal.
- You catch up fast. By about level 5 you match a normal player in the same gear. After that you keep growing.
- Every hit lands, but not always in full. Good armor makes a mob's hits weaker, and a good attack makes yours stronger. No more swinging and missing.
- Mobs have levels too. A zombie is level 3, a witch is tougher, and bosses are much tougher. With LevelledWorld installed, mobs get stronger the deeper and further you go.
- Your powers come back each day. Spells and daily powers refill at dawn.
- Made a mistake? Remake your character and keep your experience.

Solo or in a group
Everything works for a solo player. In multiplayer, different classes cover different jobs: one heals, one picks locks, one fights at the front. A party of up to 8 shares experience in full (it is never split), shows each friend's health on screen, and keeps your area spells off your friends. FTB Teams and Open Parties and Claims teams work as parties too.

🤖 How AI was used in this project
PathCraft RPG was made with the help of AI tools, and this is how.
- Design and playtesting: I decided what went in, how each system played and how it was balanced. The mod was then playtested in depth, by me and by a group of testers, and changed wherever play showed something was off.
- Code and writing: I worked alongside Claude, Anthropic's AI, to write the software and the in-game Field Guide.
- Art: the textures and icons were made with image models run on my own computer, then prompted, picked and checked by hand. The logo was made with OpenAI's GPT Image. The screenshots are unedited, taken with the MakeUp - Ultra Fast shader pack by XavierFST, through Oculus.
- In the game: no AI runs while you play, unless a server owner turns on wishing in your own words (below).
Requirements
| Minecraft | 1.20.1 |
| Loader | Forge 47.4 or newer |
| Required | Curios API 5.11 or newer (for 1.20.1) |
| Install on | Client and server |
Works well with (all optional)
- LevelledWorld: our companion mod. Mobs get levels from where they spawn, and PathCraft reads them.
- Patchouli: shows the Field Guide. Strongly recommended.
- JEI: shows the Arcane Forge, Alchemist's Lab and spell potion recipes.
- Jade or WTHIT: shows what your character knows about a mob, a horse's stats and a crop's growth.
- Immersive Portals: Dimension Door, Gate and the Portable Hole become real doorways you walk through.
- Waystones: your waystones become teleport destinations.
- FTB Teams / Open Parties and Claims: their teams work as parties.
- Better Weaponry, Farmer's Delight, Twilight Forest and structure mods are supported too.
Wish and Miracle use an online AI service only if the server turns it on
Wish and Miracle always offer a set of built-in wishes. A server owner can also allow wishing in your own words. That option is off by default. When it's on, the server sends a short description of the caster's surroundings (never the player's name) to an AI chat service that the server owner picks, using the owner's own key. The answer is checked against fixed rules before anything happens, and it can never touch operators, bans, game rules or other players. Details are in config/pathcraft-wish.toml.
FAQ
Do I need to know Pathfinder or tabletop games? No. The Field Guide explains everything in plain words, and the Recommended build button makes good choices for you.
Can I add it to an existing world? Yes. Existing players start as a Commoner and can make a character whenever they like.
Is it in my modpack? Yes, you can put it in any modpack that's free to download. Please link here rather than re-hosting the file. Full details: PERMISSIONS.
Fabric / NeoForge / other versions? Forge 1.20.1 only for now.
