What's new

Obscura's Simple Storage v4.0.0

This file is the same for all four builds. Notes that only apply to one Minecraft version or loader are marked.

Minecraft Loader File
1.21.1 Fabric obscuras_simple_storage-fabric-mc1.21.1-v4.0.0.jar
1.21.1 NeoForge obscuras_simple_storage-neoforge-mc1.21.1-v4.0.0.jar (new)
1.20.1 Fabric obscuras_simple_storage-fabric-mc1.20.1-v4.0.0.jar
1.20.1 Forge, also NeoForge 1.20.1 obscuras_simple_storage-forge-mc1.20.1-v4.0.0.jar (new)

New loaders

  • NeoForge 1.21.1 (NeoForge 21.1 or newer). Same features, balance and fixes as Fabric 1.21.1. Optional: JEI, REI, EMI, Jade, Polymorph, Curios.
  • Forge 1.20.1 (Forge 47.1 or newer). The same jar also runs on NeoForge 1.20.1 (47.1.x). Same features, balance and fixes as Fabric 1.20.1. Optional: JEI, REI, EMI, Curios.
  • Curios takes the place of Trinkets on NeoForge and Forge: the Advanced Wireless Terminal fits into the belt slot.
  • Worlds can move between Fabric and NeoForge on 1.21.1, and between Fabric and Forge on 1.20.1. Make a backup first and take the terminal out of a Trinkets or Curios slot before you switch.

New features

  • Item Locator: hold Alt and left-click an item in a Storage or Crafting Terminal. Every inventory that holds it is outlined through walls for 10 seconds (the nearest 64), and a message tells you about matches in other dimensions.
  • Basic Inventory Hopper modes: right-click the hopper with the Inventory Configurator to switch between Normal, Pulse and Keep Stock. Sneak + right-click sets the amount (1, 2, 4, 8, 9, 16, 32, 64).
    • Pulse moves exactly that amount per redstone pulse, one item at a time. A vanilla Crafter gets one item per slot (1.21.1; on 1.20.1 use dispensers, droppers or any other target).
    • Keep Stock only fills the target up to the amount, for example 16 coal in a furnace.
    • Existing hoppers stay in Normal mode.
  • Condition Filter: filters items by traits (damaged, enchanted, renamed, stackable, food, fuel, smeltable, block, has contents). Each trait is Ignore, Required or Excluded. Recipe: Item Filter + Comparator + Lapis Lazuli.
  • Builder's Reach: carry a bound Wireless or Advanced Wireless Terminal and middle-click a block you don't have. A stack of it comes out of your storage, as long as you could open that terminal from where you stand.
  • Restock: set a key for "Toggle Restock" in Controls. While it is on, the Advanced Wireless Terminal keeps the block stack in your hand above 16.
  • Inventory Link without a beacon: open an Inventory Cable Connector with an empty hand and pick a channel. Connectors on the same channel link within 4096 blocks in the same dimension. Beacons on both ends still give unlimited range (level 1) and cross-dimension links (level 3).
  • Inventory Cable Connectors apply two filters (1.21.1): their own filter and the filter on the block they point at, like on 1.20.1.
  • 1.20.1 catches up with 1.21.1: search options popup, search syntax (| for or, spaces for and, @mod, #tag, $nbt), storage statistics tooltip, offhand slot in the terminal, a yellow 0 for items that ran out, channel owner and public/private in the Inventory Link, Configurator icon buttons, and filter tooltips (hold Ctrl).
  • GUI: every sort mode has its own icon (Rarity, Registry ID, Durability and Item Group had copies of other icons). On 1.20.1, the filter toggles, list rows, scroll knobs, Add/Remove buttons, lock icons and Clear Grid button show up again.

Balance

  • Wireless Terminal range: 32 blocks (was 16). Advanced Wireless Terminal range: 128 blocks (was 64).
  • One beacon rule for the Advanced Wireless Terminal and the Inventory Link on all builds: level 1 = anywhere in the same dimension, level 3 = every dimension. (Cross-dimension used to need level 4 for terminals and level 2 for links.)
  • Basic Inventory Hopper: one item every 8 ticks, the speed of a vanilla hopper (was 10 ticks on 1.21.1).
  • The Advanced Wireless Terminal is fire resistant.
  • New config switches buildersReachEnabled, restockEnabled and itemLocatorEnabled (all on by default).
  • Config files are migrated automatically: a value still at its old default moves to the new default, a value you changed is kept. On 1.20.1, renamed keys (invRange and others) are carried over.

Fixes

Item loss and exploits

  • 1.20.1: the Filing Cabinet overwrote items after a reload once it held more than 256. Fixed; old cabinets still load.
  • Filing Cabinet refuses shulker boxes, bundles and other containers.
  • 1.20.1: framed and painted blocks and the Inventory Proxy drop themselves again when broken.
  • Open Crate amounts are clamped, so it can't spawn broken stacks.
  • 1.21.1: the Inventory Configurator no longer deletes items in its filter slot when the block is broken by someone else.
  • 1.21.1: changing a hopper's filter no longer moves one stray item.
  • Fabric 1.21.1: removed a server exploit where a small client packet could expand to tens of megabytes on the server.
  • The Crafting Terminal only accepts real 3x3 crafting recipes from recipe transfer requests.

Crashes

  • 1.21.1: fixed a server crash when a network was rebuilt while a terminal was open, and a crash when a Basic Inventory Hopper ticked before it finished loading.
  • 1.20.1: fixed a crash when the Inventory Configurator highlight was next to a painted framed cable.
  • 1.20.1: an item that fails to render no longer crashes the terminal screen (it is skipped).

Storage and filters

  • The terminal list no longer goes out of date while a JEI, REI or EMI recipe screen is open.
  • 1.21.1: chests placed or replaced behind a filtered cable connector show up in the terminal, and removed storage no longer leaves ghost items.
  • 1.21.1: item, tag and polymorphic filters no longer make items flicker or disappear.
  • Fabric 1.21.1: the Inventory Configurator can filter vanilla and modded chests and barrels again.
  • 1.20.1: a filter set with the Inventory Configurator on an Inventory Cable Connector works again.
  • 1.21.1: furnaces, brewing stands and other sided inventories connected on two faces count each slot once.
  • 1.21.1: a filtered hopper pulling from a network no longer gets stuck on the first inventory.
  • 1.20.1: a Level Emitter turns off when its target is removed.

Data, recipes and text

  • 1.20.1: the Basic Inventory Hopper, Filing Cabinet, Inventory Interface, Inventory Configurator and the "clean" recipes can be crafted in survival.
  • 1.20.1: fixed the trim tags, the Trinkets belt slot tag and the advancements. 1.21.1: recipe advancements load.
  • 1.20.1: terminal sort mode and settings are saved over restarts.
  • 1.21.1: tooltips such as "Reach: %d blocks" show the number again, in every language.
  • Shift-clicking items out of the terminal no longer puts them into your offhand.

Performance

  • Terminals send only what changed. On 1.20.1 an open terminal used to re-read the whole network every tick. Now it checks for changes, and when nothing changes it does almost no work (both versions).
  • Big item lists: opening a terminal with thousands of item types no longer slows down sharply, and amount-only changes update the list without sorting it again.
  • Cable connectors rescan when something changes (plus a check once per second) instead of four times a second.
  • 1.21.1: double chests, furnaces and other sided inventories are not rescanned while unchanged, and redstone next to a cable no longer refreshes every cable network in the dimension.
  • 1.20.1: filters are looked up by position instead of checking every filter on each scan, and hopper and Level Emitter checks are spread over different ticks.
  • The terminal's beacon check looks only at nearby block entities instead of about 5000 blocks.

Notes

  • Removed on 1.20.1: the Filtered Inventory Cable Connector. The Inventory Configurator does the same job. Connectors already placed turn into a normal Inventory Cable Connector on their first tick and drop their filter items, so nothing is lost. Set the filter again with the Configurator.
  • 1.20.1 Inventory Link: the provide/access switch is gone. Every link end provides and accesses, like on 1.21.1.
  • Check custom beacon setups: existing Inventory Links keep working, but they follow the new range and beacon rules.
  • Config files per loader: Fabric uses config/toms_storage.json. NeoForge and Forge use toms_storage-server.toml and toms_storage-common.toml. Settings are not shared between loaders, so copy your changes by hand if you switch.
  • Sodium on Fabric: if painted blocks render wrong, install Indium.
  • Every build was tested with automated in-world GameTests on a headless server: Fabric 1.21.1 (22), NeoForge 1.21.1 (24), Fabric 1.20.1 (23), Forge 1.20.1 (24, also on NeoForge 1.20.1).
  • Worlds from v3.x load. Worlds don't move between Minecraft versions.
