Oathbell

Two cathedral factions. One relic. Pick a side — the other side will remember.

Oathbell turns Minecraft 1.21.1 into a hostile church frontier. The Lantern See and the Ash Mitre claim land through bells, cathedrals, clergy, knights, and miners. You can serve one see, reject both, or carry a relic that makes every road political.

This is a Fabric client-and-server mod. Install the same jar on both sides for multiplayer.

Pick your faction

• Lantern See — Concord. Limestone, gold, cobalt glass, choir drones. Their clergy greet their own and shelter a district under the bell.
• Ash Mitre — Discord. Basalt, dead iron, violet glass, the other drone. Their clergy hunt anyone carrying Concord colours.

Pledge with a faction token: stand beneath a bell of that law and run /oathbell join concord or /oathbell join discord. The token is consumed. You can also use a token directly on a See Bell: it flips the bell's law and binds you on the spot.

• /oathbell side — read your oath.
• /oathbell leave — renounce both sees. You become neutral, and both clergy stop caring. You also stop being anyone's ally.

Your oath changes how folk treat you. Clergy of your see greet you and fight beside you. Enemy clergy attack on sight. Inquisitors and relic-thieves hunt opposite pledges. Folk do not forget a banner.

The bell is shelter

Bells define shelter. Outside a bell's law radius:

• hunger drains even when you eat,
• night cold slows you down unless you carry a Wool Cloak,
• crypt fever weakens you unless you carry a Fever Tincture.

Inside a bell's law you are sheltered and none of it touches you. That is the faction bargain: the see owns the ground, and the ground keeps you alive.

Faction goods only the clergy trade:

• Pilgrim Bread — baked inside a see, edible, restores hunger.
• Wool Cloak — choir wool; carrying it stops the cold.
• Fever Tincture — crypt-herbs; carrying it stops the fever.
• Cistern Flask — cathedral water, sealed and carried.
• Concord Token / Discord Token — your pledge, and a way to flip a bell.
• See Relic — one relic, claimed by both sees. Carrying it is a statement.
• Bell Card — ring a See Bell: Concord calms, Discord hunts. Sneak to ring the other.

The other arms

• Oathbound: Gate Captains and Banner-bearers hold the citadel. They open for an Oath Seal, not for promises. Ransom Knights keep you alive because a corpse pays once. Hound-masters do not bargain twice.
• Deep Company: Foremen take a Claim Chit before the rail moves. Lamp-bearers sell Lamp Oil; an unlit guest does not come back. Claimjumpers leave Trap Chits in the dark, and Ambushers and Trap-setters own every tunnel the Company has not stamped.

The world

• Tsharas Castle and Truecolors Cathedral generate as rare overworld landmarks.
• Building set: Lantern Limestone, Carved Limestone, Pillars, Courses, Flying Buttresses, Choir Steps and Lofts, Ash Basalt, Dead Iron, Ash Flagstone, Cobalt and Violet Glass, Rose Windows, See Bells, Incense Bowls, Crypt Mouths, Portcullises, Oath and Broken Banners, Company Lamps, Claim Rails.
• Fourteen custom sounds: bells, choir drones, crypt drips, pick echoes, lamp ticks, and four need-cues.
• Ambient particles: incense, ash motes, glass motes, lamp sparks.

The Relic Codex

Craft or find the Relic Codex and use it to read the sees, the relic, the oathbound, and the Deep Company. Five pages, written as scripture, not as a manual.

Quick start

1. Find a See Bell or use a test world with one.
2. Carry the matching faction token.
3. Stand beneath the bell.
4. Run /oathbell join concord or /oathbell join discord.
5. Use /oathbell side to confirm your oath.

Install the same jar on client and server for multiplayer. Worldgen landmarks appear in new chunks.
