No Mob Equipment
Tired of dying to a fully-armored zombie that spawned three feet behind you?
No Mob Equipment is a lightweight, universal Forge mod that stops any hostile (or passive) mob from spawning if it's carrying equipment — weapons, tools, shields, or armor. No item lists. No mob lists. No configuration headaches. Just clean, unequipped spawns, every time.
Why you'll want this
Vanilla Minecraft occasionally spawns mobs decked out in gear based on difficulty — an iron-clad zombie, a skeleton with a bow, a piglin swinging a crossbow. In a modpack with hundreds of items from dozens of mods, that randomness multiplies fast, and "surprise geared mob" becomes "surprise death." No Mob Equipment removes that risk entirely, without touching anything else about how mobs behave.
Key features
- Truly universal — works by checking whether a mob's equipment slots are empty, not by matching item IDs. Vanilla items, modded items, custom items added after install: all covered automatically.
- No mob list required — applies to any entity extending `Mob`, vanilla or modded, present now or added by a future update to your modpack.
- Zero setup — works out of the box with sensible defaults. No item registry to maintain, no compatibility patches needed.
- Surgical, not destructive — the mod never strips gear from mobs that already exist in the world, and it never touches players. It only ever affects the spawn moment itself.
- Configurable when you need it — toggle the mod on/off, enable debug logging, or choose exactly which slots (main hand, off hand, head, chest, legs, feet) get checked.
- Featherweight — no periodic scans, no world-wide entity ticking, no reflection. The mod only runs when the game actually asks it to.
Perfect for
- Modpacks with large item pools, where a geared mob spawn can be a real difficulty spike
- Servers that want more predictable, controllable mob threat levels
- Anyone building a pack around unarmed/unarmored mob variants as a design choice
Compatibility
Built for Minecraft 1.20.1 on Forge 47.x, requiring Java 17. No Fabric dependency, no external libraries — just Forge.
