Night Stalker
A towering, long-armed hunter is approaching through the darkness. Night Stalker adds a 3.15-block-tall horror mob that stalks its target before giving chase, screams before lunging, and winds up close-range claw attacks. It has 80 health by default.
Survive the hunt
- Dodge the lunge. Its direction locks when the windup begins. Sidestep before it rushes up to five blocks forward; solid blocks stop the rush.
- Fight back. Armor, shields and vanilla damage invulnerability remain effective. Use its recovery window to counterattack or escape.
- Seek light. Staying in a sufficiently bright area makes it retreat. Brief changes in light do not trigger an immediate retreat.
- Distract it with Echo Bait. A nearby hunter that can see the bait will investigate it, temporarily interrupting its pursuit. Combine an amethyst shard, string and a clay ball in a shapeless recipe to craft two bait items. Hold the bait, crouch and right-click the air to open a guide that reflects your current settings. The in-game guide is currently in Simplified Chinese.
Installation
Requires Minecraft 1.20.1, Forge 47.4 or newer (tested with 47.4.10), and Java 17. Install the same mod version on both the client and the server. No additional mods or animation libraries are required.
Spawning and configuration
The hunter spawns rarely on eligible dark ground in the Overworld, one at a time. Vanilla mob caps and spawning-distance rules still apply. Peaceful difficulty removes it using vanilla hostile-mob behavior.
Edit config/nightstalker-common.toml in your instance to adjust health, attack damage, spawn weight, light sensitivity, bait behavior and drops, then restart the instance. Configuration keys and comments are currently in Simplified Chinese.
Existing configuration files retain their previous values when updating. To use the new default combat settings, check health (80), lunge distance (5 blocks), attack recovery (20 ticks) and attack cooldown (35 ticks). Updating does not automatically heal already-injured mobs.
The mod does not break blocks, change the day/night cycle or force-load chunks.
