What's new

Version 1.2.0 V3

Available for Minecraft 1.20.1

AI and Groq

  • Replaced the retired llama-3.1-8b-instant model with openai/gpt-oss-20b.
  • Existing configurations using the retired model are migrated automatically.
  • Manually selected Groq models are preserved.
  • Added low reasoning effort and hidden reasoning for shorter, cost-conscious replies.
  • Kept whisper-large-v3-turbo for voice transcription.
  • The configured language now controls transcription, AI replies and spoken voice.

Conversation memory

  • Added short-term memory for recent conversations.
  • Added persistent important memories stored locally per player and world.
  • Niebla can remember personal details, explicit requests and shared milestones.
  • Added relationship progression with a bond level from 0 to 100.
  • Bond progression changes the warmth and familiarity of AI replies.
  • Added the following client commands:

    • /nieblamemories
    • /nieblaremember <memory>
    • /nieblabond
    • /nieblaforget confirm

Safe actions and commands

  • Added server-authoritative actions:
    • Come
    • Follow
    • Stay
    • Sit
    • Sleep
    • Fetch
    • Guard
  • Actions can be requested through chat, voice or /niebla commands.
  • Added natural command recognition in Spanish, English and Portuguese.
  • Groq cannot execute arbitrary commands; actions are restricted to a fixed safe list.

Improved fetch behavior

  • Niebla can retrieve the dropped item the player is looking at.
  • If no item is selected, Niebla searches around both the player and the pet.
  • The original item entity is carried back without duplicating or deleting it.
  • Fetch movement now prioritizes Minecraft’s normal pathfinding.
  • Direct movement is only used when no valid path can be created.
  • Niebla turns toward the destination while walking.
  • Slightly reduced fetch speed to make the walking cycle more visible.
  • Added extra Doggy Talents Next walking-animation support for short trips.

Speech queue

  • Added a single ordered queue for speech bubbles and text-to-speech.
  • New lines wait until the current sentence finishes.
  • Replies no longer overwrite each other.
  • Niebla no longer speaks two sentences simultaneously.
  • Duplicate pending lines are ignored.
  • Ambient and Doggy Talents reactions wait while another line is playing.

Speech bubble and shaders

  • Reworked the speech bubble for shader compatibility.
  • Removed emissive and full-bright rendering.
  • The bubble no longer produces flashes or bloom with shaders.
  • Added a fully opaque white surface.
  • Removed translucent backgrounds and shadows.
  • Added readable dark text.
  • Improved border and surface depth to prevent shader z-fighting.
  • Reduced close-up size and improved distance-based scaling.
  • Raised the bubble to reduce overlap with Niebla’s name and other overlays.

Hostile entity reactions

  • Niebla now warns only once for each hostile entity while it remains present.
  • Leaving and re-entering the warning radius does not repeat the warning.
  • The entity resets after despawning, unloading or becoming invisible.
  • If the same creature genuinely appears again later, Niebla can warn again.
  • Modded hostiles implementing Minecraft’s enemy behavior are supported.
  • Mobs actively targeting the player can also trigger a warning.
  • Groups appearing together generate a single reaction instead of several lines.

Companion identity and safety

  • Added server-to-client UUID synchronization for Niebla.
  • Speech, actions and memories now target the correct companion.
  • Fixed unrelated custom-named wolves or cats potentially being detected as Niebla.
  • Renaming the companion does not break chat commands.
  • The custom name becomes a valid chat trigger.
  • Niebla remains a permanent alias after renaming.
  • Pet-form changes now create the replacement before removing the previous entity.
  • Existing companion tags and configuration files remain compatible.

Doggy Talents Next

  • Doggy Talents Next remains completely optional.
  • Dog form can be converted through DTN’s own conversion system.
  • Added reactions to petting sessions, behavior modes and important animations.
  • Added support for petting styles such as Face Rub, Hug, Belly Rub and Back Hug.
  • Added reflection-based walking-animation support during fetch actions.
  • Niebla still loads normally when DTN is not installed.
  • DTN talents and accessories are not transferred when switching to cat form.
