What's new

The Beyond Update

The biggest update yet: 550 new biomes for the End and the Nether, and 408 structures to find across all three dimensions.

The End: 300 new biomes

  • 30 new landscapes, from Purpur Mesas, Starstone Heights and Chorus Jungle to Umbral Fen, Verdigris Expanse, Dragonbone Fields and Prismarine Shoals, plus five kinds of floating islets: Drifting Gardens, Star Nursery, Crystal Drift, Obsidian Motes and Aurora Veil.
  • Every landscape comes in 10 versions. Beside its plain self, it takes nine of 14 twists: Frozen, Overgrown, Shattered, Luminous, Scorched, Towering, Ancient, Barren, Crystal, Cratered, Voidscarred, Sculked, Bleached and Verdant. Each version reworks the ground and features and has its own fog and particles.
  • The outer End is now 312 biomes. The main island, the dragon fight and End cities are untouched.

The Nether: 250 new biomes

  • 25 new landscapes, including Cinder Wastes, Crimson Cathedral, Basalt Organs, Brimstone Flats, Auric Badlands, Glowcap Hollows, Weeping Rift, Molten Geodes and a frozen Frostfire Chasm.
  • Each landscape comes in 10 versions from 15 twists: Molten, Ashen, Soulburnt, Gilded, Crystalline, Fungal, Weeping, Basaltic, Ossified, Radiant, Frostbitten, Blighted, Overgrown, Shattered and Towering.
  • Each landscape is a region of its own. Its plain version sits in the middle and its versions ring it, so crossing a region shows the landscape changing.
  • Fortresses, bastions and ruined portals still generate in all of them.

Structures: 408 across the three dimensions

  • 371 buildings: 171 in the overworld, 101 in the Nether and 99 in the End.
    • They come in 17 kinds: towers, keeps, temples, ziggurats, crypts, hamlets, shrines, watchtowers, observatories, libraries, forges, arenas, mazes, outposts, vaults, graveyards and lighthouses.
    • Every one is built fresh each time, with its own size, layout and amount of ruin.
    • Each uses one of 62 block palettes suited to its biome. Examples: oak hamlets in the plains, sandstone ziggurats in deserts, dark oak keeps in dark forests, maple libraries in the Autumn realm, sunken prismarine temples on the seabed, nether brick keeps and soul crypts in the Nether, and purpur lighthouses and amethyst temples in the End.
  • 37 natural landmarks:
    • Overworld: stone circles, sky isles, meteor craters, great fossils and ice spires.
    • Nether: wither spires, molten geodes and giant warped and crimson reefs.
    • End: crystal colossi, prism stars and dragon skeletons.
  • Loot and spawners. Chests use new loot tables for each dimension. Treasure chests sit in cellars, vaults, crypts, arenas and mazes, guarded by spawners with mobs suited to the place.
  • Rare on purpose. Only about one spot in ten on each structure grid holds a structure, so each one is a find. They keep clear of villages, fortresses, bastions and End cities.
  • Finding them.
    • /locate structure #mysticalterrain:overworld (or #mysticalterrain:nether, #mysticalterrain:end) finds the nearest.
    • A single structure uses its id, for example mysticalterrain:overworld/oak_hamlet.

Other changes

  • Grand trees no longer take root on buildings' roofs and floors.
  • The End and Nether formation structures now check their biome before they're shaped, and surface formations stay off water.
