MORTALS & GODS - BUILD YOUR OWN PANTHEON!
Found your own religion. Raise an altar, wall it into a sanctum, and earn the favor of gods you control. Every god, every boon, and every offering is defined in plain, editable JSON, so the gods that ship with the mod are only a starting preset. Rename them, replace them, or add as many of your own as you like, with no code and no crashes.
The whole mod is built on duality (i.e. Good and Evil). The gods come in opposed pairs, and you choose one side of each. Life or death. Craft or magic. Order or slaughter. Your devotion grows with every offering but fades if you neglect the faith, so worship has to be a habit, not a one-time purchase.
BUILDING AN ALTAR
- Stand an enchanting table on a 3x3 of ore blocks, then wall it into a fully enclosed room. That sealed, consecrated space is your Sanctum. Out in the open it is just a table; worship only answers from inside.
- An altar's strength is the value of the ore blocks adorning its temple, the way a wealthy church boasts a golden altar. Line the Sanctum's walls, floor, and pillars with ore blocks, or richer ones (copper, iron, gold, emerald, diamond, netherite), to raise its tier. Every god is available at any altar; a richer temple simply makes each offering grant more devotion, for a proportionally larger sacrifice.
- Press the worship key (bind it under Controls) to open a full-screen shrine where the gods face each other in pairs, each one a tall illustrated tarot card.
A SACRED PLACE
- Worship is meant to feel sacred. Open the shrine at an altar and your character turns to face it and kneels in prayer, head bowed, for as long as you worship. Everyone nearby sees it.
- A consecrated Sanctum fills with drifting motes of holy light and a faint chime. The richer the temple, the denser the glow: a humble shrine barely shimmers, while a top-tier golden temple feels genuinely divine.
- A Lore tab tells the story of the world the pantheon belongs to, a hook into the wider saga, and it is editable like everything else.
THE DEFAULT GODS
- Primarch Gods, paid in totems of undying. Luminara swells your maximum health the more you give. Mortanis stores totem-like revives, so when you would die, you live on instead.
- Gods of Experience, paid in XP levels. Forgrimm tempers the gear you craft and lengthens your reach. Xerion grants more mana, with Iron's Spells installed.
- Gods of War, paid in the blood of the rival faith. Imperius hardens his faithful with Resistance and preaches unity. Sanguinar sharpens his faithful with Strength and preaches endless slaughter. War favor is earned only by slaying unique followers of the other god, and it climbs so steeply that the top tiers are all but unreachable.
LIVING DEMI-GODS
- A crowned ruler can be worshipped too, and the Demi-Gods tab always names who holds the throne. Worshippers and rejecters wage a quiet war: cut down a member of the rival faction and you steal a slice of their stored devotion into your own.
- Who can be a Demi-God is up to the server: leave it to whoever an operator crowns (the default), or fix specific players in the config. War 'n Nobility's Emperor can be hooked in later.
- The ruler gains no potion. Instead the realm's net favor, the worshippers minus the rejecters, scales the ruler's body and might through Pehkui: health, strength, speed, and reach. An adored ruler grows mighty; a hunted ruler physically weakens until the realm can finally bring them down. The scaling is the politics, with no separate overthrow.
DEVOTION THAT REWARDS THE FAITHFUL
- Every boon follows a diminishing-returns curve. It climbs fast at first, then approaches a ceiling it never quite reaches, so no single god ever becomes infinite power.
- Neglect a god and your devotion slowly bleeds away. The gods reward the regular and forget the absent.
MAKE IT YOUR OWN
- Open config/mortalsgods/pantheon.json and the plain-language README beside it. Pick a boon type and a currency type from a fixed menu and fill in the numbers. You only ever edit data, never code, so a mistake is skipped with a log note instead of crashing.
- An offering can be any item (diamonds, emeralds, a modded relic, anything), a number of XP levels, or kills of a rival faction. Add new gods, new pairs, even new tabs, then run the reload command to apply your edits without restarting.
- Reskin and re-tell it, too. Drop your own PNG into config/mortalsgods/images/ to give any god a new picture, and write config/mortalsgods/lore.txt to replace the Lore tab with your own world's story. Out of the box, everything is the Warborn Realms pantheon; you only touch the config if you want to make it yours.
COMPATIBILITY
- NeoForge 1.21.1. Server-authoritative.
- Optional soft dependencies: Pehkui (Demi-God scaling), Iron's Spells (Xerion's mana), and War 'n Nobility (the Emperor identity). All optional; the mod runs cleanly without any of them.
