Description
๐ Mongolians โ Genghis Khan Army
Face Genghis Khan and rare Mongol invasions, mounted armies, occupied villages, peaceful settlements, traders, and vanilla-style survival combat.
Mongolians is a focused vanilla-style combat and exploration mod that brings the armies and settlements of the Mongol Empire into normal survival gameplay.
Genghis Khan may approach alone during your first encounter. Defeat him and later invasions become more dangerous, adding warriors, archers, raiders, guards, war standards, and occasional mounted troops. Beyond invasions, the world can contain occupied villages to liberate, peaceful Mongol settlements, traveling traders, Mongol horses, and themed village defenders.
The mod is designed to create memorable encounters without turning Minecraft into a giant RPG. It uses familiar equipment, loot, movement, villages, and combat rules so the experience still feels at home in vanilla Minecraft.
โ๏ธ Rare, persistent invasions
Mongol armies do not join the ordinary nighttime spawn pool. Invasions are uncommon server-controlled events separated by a configurable cooldown, which defaults to roughly three to seven Minecraft days.
- The first personal invasion contains Genghis Khan only.
- Defeating Genghis during a valid invasion increases that player's invasion level.
- Later encounters gradually add Mongol Warriors, Archers, Raiders, and Guards.
- Larger forces can include standard bearers and mounted soldiers.
- The default safety cap is 16 simultaneous attackers, and it is configurable.
- Invasion progress and cooldowns persist through death, logout, dimension changes, and server restarts.
- Progression is tracked per player, while nearby players are grouped safely to avoid overlapping invasions.
- Invasions do not begin on Peaceful difficulty; Easy, Normal, and Hard adjust group size without absurd health scaling.
Invaders assemble on valid surface terrain outside their objective and move toward it instead of appearing inside a house or village. Spawn checks reject unsafe positions such as lava, deep water, enclosed blocks, random caves, and unsuitable rooftops.
๐ฏ Village and player-home targets
An invasion can attack one of two practical targets:
- Village invasion: the army gathers outside a nearby vanilla village, advances through it, and fights players, villagers, and Iron Golems according to server configuration.
- Home invasion: the army approaches the player's valid Overworld bed spawn. Small local checks help confirm that the area resembles a base without scanning thousands of blocks.
If no safe and reliable target can be found, the event is postponed instead of forcing a bad spawn.
๐ Genghis Khan and his army
Genghis Khan
A recognizable commander with his own detailed texture, stronger equipment, and reliable melee/ranged switching. Early encounters use restrained stats; his strength grows gradually with the target player's invasion level. Genghis can return after being defeated and may ride a Mongol Horse in later invasions.
Mongol Warrior
A fast frontline fighter that closes distance with an Iron Sword and occasional iron armor.
Mongol Archer
A ranged specialist that uses vanilla-style bow combat, seeks line of sight, keeps distance, and repositions when enemies get too close.
Mongol Raider
An aggressive melee attacker equipped with an Iron Axe and partial iron armor.
Mongol Guard
A tougher defensive soldier that protects commanders and occupied positions. Guards use Iron Swords, armor, and shields where the target Minecraft version supports the behavior reliably.
Princes of Genghis Khan
Every occupied village has exactly one persistent prince: Jochi, Chagatai, รgedei, or Tolui. A village cannot generate duplicate princes.
Mounted troops and war standards
Starting with later invasion levels, Genghis and some soldiers can enter battle on detailed Mongol Horses. Larger hostile groups may also include soldiers carrying a historical Mongol-inspired war standard.
๐๏ธ Occupied villages
An eligible vanilla village receives one persistent occupation roll when it is first processed. By default, 15% become occupied.
An occupied village contains a mixed Mongol garrison and one prince. The result is saved, the soldiers remain associated with that village through normal chunk unloading and world saves, and chunks are never kept permanently loaded.
Defeat the full garrison to liberate the village permanently. A liberated village will not regenerate its occupation after a restart.
๐๏ธ Peaceful Mongol villages
Eligible villages can instead become peaceful sand-themed Mongol settlements, with a default chance of 20%. Peaceful and occupied outcomes are mutually exclusive.
These settlements can include:
- Mongol civilians with daily morning, work, social, evening, and rest routines;
- peaceful Mongol Guards that patrol, defend villagers, and fight monsters or hostile invaders without attacking players;
- Mongol Horses living near the settlement;
- historical Mongol-inspired banners and standards;
- a thematic Mongol Village Golem with familiar Iron Golem behavior;
- village life that is simulated locally at spaced intervals for server performance.
Giving a Poppy to an adult female Mongol Civilian permanently paints her hands red. One poppy is consumed unless the player is in Creative mode.
๐ซ Traveling Mongol traders
Peaceful Mongol Traders occasionally travel through the world and offer a small set of Mongolia-inspired goods made from vanilla-compatible items, including:
- Airag;
- Aaruul;
- Mongolian Felt;
- Steppe Saddle;
- Mongol Composite Bow.
On modern versions, a caravan arrives with a camel and two tethered goats. Minecraft 1.16.5 uses a compatible fallback caravan with a named llama and two sheep.
๐ด Mongol Horses
Mongol Horses use their own detailed texture and can appear near peaceful villages or carry troops during invasions. Their riders use corrected vanilla humanoid positioning so they sit naturally in the saddle.
๐ Vanilla-friendly loot
Mongol enemies use loot tables rather than large hardcoded drop lists. Possible rewards include bread, cooked meat, arrows, bows, iron weapons, and occasional iron armor pieces. Genghis has better chances for useful supplies, with restrained chances for Golden Carrots or a Golden Apple.
The mod does not hand out free Diamond or Netherite equipment, preserving normal survival progression.
๐ฅ Creative inventory and spawn eggs
The Mongolians creative tab includes ten development-friendly spawn eggs:
- Genghis Khan;
- Mongol Warrior;
- Mongol Archer;
- Mongol Raider;
- Mongol Guard;
- Mongol Trader;
- Mongol Civilian;
- Mongol Village Golem;
- Mongol Horse;
- Mongol Prince.
Normal survival encounters still come from invasions, occupied villages, peaceful villages, and caravansโnot generic hostile spawning.

โ Frequently asked questions
Does the mod require a new world?
No. It can process eligible villages in an existing world as they are encountered.
Do Mongol soldiers spawn like zombies every night?
No. Hostile Mongols appear through special invasions and occupied villages.
Is the mod required on both client and server?
Yes. The server owns gameplay and persistence, while clients need the mod for entities, textures, items, and rendering.
Does it keep village chunks permanently loaded?
No. Village state is saved persistently and entities use normal world saving without permanent chunk loading.
Are textures downloaded while playing?
No. All runtime textures are packaged inside the mod JAR, so the mod does not need an internet connection for assets.
