Become a Beyonder
The ordinary world is only the beginning. LotM: Beyond the Veil is an independent Minecraft progression mod inspired by Lord of the Mysteries. Discover a Pathway, uncover its potion formula, gather unusual ingredients, and take your first step into a dangerous supernatural life.
Power comes with a process. Prepare potions, digest each Sequence by acting in character, and meet the ritual requirements before advancing. Learn the abilities your current Sequence offers, manage your Spirituality, and explore a world shaped by secretive organizations, unusual creatures, hidden resources, and monumental places.
Beta status: This is an early development build for Minecraft 26.3 and NeoForge. The progression systems cover a wide scope, but most Pathway abilities are still being implemented. This Beta is not the complete planned 1.0 experience.
Your progression, step by step
- Choose a Pathway with care. Read the Beyonder's Guide and learn about the formulas, ingredients, powers, and advancement requirements. Pathway switching is not currently supported, so start with the route you want to follow.
- Find a formula and gather its ingredients. Each Sequence potion uses a formula book and four ingredients. Search the Overworld, visit the right biomes, encounter creatures, and explore world locations to find the materials your recipe calls for.
- Prepare the potion at the Potion Altar. Read its formula, place the book and four ingredients in the altar, and begin brewing. When the process finishes, retrieve the potion and consume it to attempt the corresponding Sequence.
- Act like your Sequence. Complete the specific challenges shown in your journal. Acting is tracked through concrete Minecraft actions and objectives; opening a menu or repeatedly pressing a skill does not count as digestion.
- Complete the next ritual. Advancement rituals have their own requirements, shown separately from acting. Your character must satisfy the previous Sequence, digestion, ritual, and route-readiness checks before the server accepts the next potion.
- Use your Beyonder abilities. Bind available active powers to the ability hotbar, switch modes, and activate them when the situation is right. Abilities can have Spirituality costs, cooldowns, range, conditions, and channeling rules.
- Continue exploring. Follow ingredient clues, meet the world's organizations, and discover the places and creatures connected to your route.
The server validates potion identity and progression requirements, and character progression is saved with the world. This prevents an ordinary item that merely looks like a potion from counting as a valid altar-brewed Sequence potion.
What is in the Beta
- A Pathway progression framework based on 22 distinct Beyonder Paths. The active development target is Sequences 9 through 5; a sequence appearing in the reference catalogue does not automatically mean its powers are complete or playable.
- Formula books and a working Potion Altar for brewing Sequence potions from four ingredients over time.
- Pathway-themed ingredients and sources tied to creatures, blocks, biomes, and exploration. The guide and journal help explain formulas and requirements.
- Persistent character progression, including the current Sequence, Spirituality, unlocked abilities, cooldowns, acting progress, and advancement state.
- Acting challenges and rituals that use concrete objectives and Minecraft advancement criteria to structure digestion and advancement.
- A Beyonder journal for character status, abilities, bindings, formulas, acting objectives, rituals, and organization information.
- An ability hotbar with item and power modes, key bindings, multiple ability pages, and server-checked activation rules.
- Supernatural creatures, ingredient encounters, organizations, and world locations that connect progression to exploration.
- Ten large fixed landmarks placed within a 7,500-block radius, while random structure generation remains active. Landmark preparation starts as the world opens and may take several minutes; allow it to finish before visiting a site.
The current static readiness audit marks 16 of 110 Sequence routes from 9 to 5 as ready. This is a development audit, not proof that every route has passed in-game, visual, multiplayer, or long-session testing. Many abilities and some complete route kits remain in progress.
Controls
Default bindings can be changed in Minecraft's Controls menu.
| Default key | Action |
|---|---|
| R | Open the Beyonder journal |
| Left Alt | Switch between the item hotbar and ability hotbar |
| 1–9 | Activate the ability bound to that slot while in ability mode |
| [ / ] | Change the ability page |
| G | Use a supported secondary ability action |
| V | Use the supported Clown dodge when its conditions are met |
| Backspace | Cancel an active channel or concentration |
Not every power supports secondary actions or dodge. Passive abilities do not use active slots.
Where development is headed
The long-term goal is a broader, more complete Beyonder RPG in Minecraft. Planned work includes:
- Completing coherent, playable Sequence 9–5 kits across all 22 Pathways, including powers, costs, cooldowns, obtainable ingredients, acting, and rituals.
- Continuing progression toward the deeper Sequences represented in the design catalogue.
- Expanding organizations, NPC contacts, missions, expeditions, creature encounters, and the places tied to each Pathway.
- Improving the journal, ability presentation, world integration, balancing, and multiplayer reliability.
- Building out additional quest, economy, animation, and audio systems as the project approaches its planned 1.0 scope.
These are development goals, not promises of specific mechanics or release dates. Content will be added and adjusted as each system becomes playable and can be validated.
Installation and compatibility
- Requires Minecraft Java Edition 26.3, NeoForge 26.3.0.80 or later in the 26.3 line, and Java 25.
- Install the matching LotM JAR in the
modsfolder of your Minecraft instance. - For multiplayer, install the same build on the server and every client that joins.
- Back up existing worlds before trying development builds. Landmark generation and world systems can make substantial changes to explored areas.
- Fixed landmarks begin preparing after the world opens. Preparation is gradual and can take several minutes; avoid teleporting into an unfinished landmark.
Beta limitations and release status
LotM: Beyond the Veil is in active development. The current scope focuses on the early Sequence progression, and only a subset of routes has complete powers. Client visuals, long sessions, dedicated-server operation, and real multiplayer/relog behavior still need broader gameplay validation. Please include the Minecraft version, NeoForge version, logs, and steps to reproduce when reporting an issue.
The current development package also contains imported landmark map assets whose written redistribution permissions have not yet been attached to the release record. Public distribution of that package is pending clearance for those assets.
