Curse Maven Snippet
Mercantile's first stable release — a complete villager and trade overhaul for Minecraft 1.21.1. Villagers become named, portable, persistent characters, backed by a global reputation system, an iron-fueled defense block, and deep recipe-viewer integration. Every feature is individually toggleable.
Added
- Villager pickup — sneak-right-click a villager with an empty hand to carry them as a profession-themed head, then place them back down. They keep everything: profession, level, trades, name, health, and inventory. Costs a few XP levels, and won't work mid-raid or on a villager someone else is trading with.
- Biome-themed names — every villager is auto-named from a pool that matches where it spawned: English names in plains, Nordic in taiga, Mesoamerican in jungle, African in savanna, and more. Names stay visible above the villager and survive pickup and restarts. Player-given nametags always win.
- Reputation — a single global standing per player, across six tiers from Reviled to Honored. Trading, curing zombie villagers, gifting profession items, spending time near villagers, and defending raids raise it; hitting and killing villagers lower it. Higher tiers unlock price discounts and exclusive trades — per-profession and cross-profession — while very low standing gets you refused. Negative reputation slowly recovers on its own, and gifting speeds the climb back.
- Trade cycling — a button in the trade screen re-rolls a villager's unlocked offers for emeralds. Any trade you've bought from locks in and is never re-rolled, so cycling gets more efficient as you fill the slots you want.
- Follow mode — sneak-right-click a villager while holding an emerald to have them follow you; do it again to send them home to their bed or workstation. Up to three villagers at once, and they're immune to being shoved off their path.
- Sentry pylon — a craftable defense block that burns iron blocks to summon temporary iron golems when hostiles enter its radius, and rings the nearest village bell to call you to the fight. The golems fight anything hostile — creepers included — then fade away once it's safe. Comparator output reads fuel level; a redstone signal switches it off.
- Bulk trading — shift-click a trade to repeat it up to 64 times in one action, until your items or the stock run out.
- Merchant screen upgrades — a restock timer, a price breakdown on hover (base, demand, reputation, and gossip), and an info panel showing the villager's name, level and XP, your reputation with them, total trades, and workstation status.
- Profession lock — once you've traded with a villager, breaking their workstation won't wipe their profession.
- Pathfinding fixes — villagers now handle fence gates, double doors, multi-step staircases, and ladders, and route around water instead of walking in and drowning. Each fix toggles independently.
- Healing boost — splash and lingering potions of healing and regeneration are twice as effective on villagers, so patching them up after a siege actually works.
- Workstation and bell visualizations — hold a bell to see profession-colored particle links between villagers and their workstations, and the bell's gathering radius drawn as a circle on the ground. Unbound villagers and unclaimed workstations are called out too.
- Reputation HUD — a compact tier readout next to nearby villagers.
- Villager sound slider — set the volume of villager ambient, trade, and hurt sounds anywhere from 0 to 100%.
- Trade index — a unified, searchable catalog of every villager trade in EMI, REI, and JEI. Search "mending" to find who sells it, or any item to see who buys it; filter by profession, level, or reputation lock. Item lookups list matching trades right alongside crafting recipes.
- Jade / WTHIT tooltips — look at a villager to see breeding readiness, cooldowns, food counts, baby growth time, and live state (hungry, panicking, needs a bed, trading).
/mercantilecommands — check your own reputation, and as an operator adjust another player's or reload the config in place.
