What's new

[1.5.1] — September 2nd, 2026

A major conversation overhaul! Villagers now remember your choices, bring up things that matter to them, keep track of promises, and vary their dialogue. The conversation screen has also been redesigned to look and feel like a natural part of Minecraft.

💬 Better Conversations

  • Villagers remember your decisions. Your choices and how villagers reacted to them can now affect future conversations.
  • Promises actually matter. Promises can now be recognized as kept or broken based on what happens in-game.
  • Villagers bring up important things on their own. They may remind you about a promise, revisit an unresolved issue, continue an unfinished conversation, or tell you about something that has changed.
  • New village events. Villagers can now talk about things happening in the village, such as weddings, deaths, arrivals, and departures.
  • Longer conversations. Some discussions can now continue for a third turn, allowing topics and disagreements to develop further.
  • More personality. Villagers now have more distinct voices, with personality affecting more of their dialogue.
  • Less repetition. Villagers no longer repeatedly say the same randomly selected line. Dialogue now cycles through available responses more naturally.
  • More dynamic conversations. Dialogue can react to your relationship, previous conversations, village events, promises, and the villager's current circumstances.
  • Improved conversation reliability. Previously unreachable dialogue and situations can now occur properly.

🎨 Redesigned Conversation UI

  • Fully vanilla-style appearance. The conversation card now uses Minecraft's own GUI textures and visual style.
  • Resource-pack friendly. Resource packs that change Minecraft's menus will automatically affect the conversation interface.
  • Improved text and selection states. Responses use familiar Minecraft list styling, highlighting, and readable text.
  • Better scrolling. Long conversations and response lists now use a proper Minecraft-style scrollbar.
  • Speaker portraits remain supported, along with line-reveal animations, motion, and narration.

⚙️ Configuration

  • Gameplay-related settings have moved to the server's configuration file, ensuring that the server controls gameplay rules consistently for everyone.
  • Existing customized gameplay settings need to be copied to the new server configuration file.
  • Added a configurable cooldown for villagers who spontaneously start conversations.
  • Client-side visual settings remain client-side.

🔧 Compatibility

  • Network protocol remains unchanged.
  • Existing saves remain compatible.
  • Existing datapacks remain compatible.
  • The new conversation features are fully datapack-driven and deterministic; no AI or LLM is involved.
  • Resource packs targeting the old custom conversation textures will need to be updated, as the conversation card now uses Minecraft's own GUI textures.

🐛 Fixed

  • Previously unreachable conversation scenes can now trigger correctly.
  • Villager dialogue that was being overwritten before it could be displayed now appears properly.
  • Conversation choices are now properly remembered.
  • Promise outcomes are now tracked correctly.
  • Various scrolling, layout, and UI issues have been corrected.

In short: villagers now feel much more like people who remember you, have things going on, and react to your history together, while the conversation UI finally looks like it belongs in Minecraft.
