Mariocraft 64
Play Minecraft as Mario, with the real Super Mario 64 moveset.
This is not a skin or a model swap. Mariocraft 64 runs the actual Super Mario 64 movement code (through libsm64) inside Minecraft, and turns the blocks around you into SM64 collision. Mario runs, jumps, swims and fights exactly like on the N64, in your Minecraft world.
⚠️ You need your own Super Mario 64 ROM (US or European). No Nintendo game data is included in this mod. Mario's textures, animations and voice are read from your ROM when the game starts.
Features
The full SM64 moveset
- Running, single / double / triple jump, backflip, side flip, long jump, wall kick
- Ground pound, dive, slide kick, crouch, ledge grab
- Swimming: plunge, breaststroke, flutter kick, jumping out of the water
- Sliding on ice, the famous lava boost
Fits into Minecraft
- Walks up slabs and stairs like Steve does
- Punch, kick, stomp and ground pound damage mobs (with the SM64 recoil and bounce)
- Holding attack keeps a punch-punch-kick combo going while you mine
- Mario turns toward your crosshair when you punch
- Your held item is drawn in Mario's hand
- Minecraft lighting, hurt flash and shadow on Mario
- Mario appears in the inventory screen
- Mario's glove is your first-person hand
- Health stays Minecraft health; SM64 fall damage rules replace vanilla fall damage
- Riding boats, horses and minecarts uses a seated pose
- Creative flight and elytra gliding use the Wing Cap flying pose
- Mario's voice and sound effects come from the original N64 audio engine and follow your Minecraft volume

Requirements
- Minecraft Java 26.3
- Fabric Loader 0.19.5 or newer
- Fabric API
- Windows 64-bit only (the bundled native library is Windows x64)
- A Super Mario 64 ROM, US or European version (
.z64,.n64or.v64). The Japanese version is not supported.
Installation
- Install Fabric Loader for 26.3, then put Fabric API and Mariocraft 64 in your
modsfolder. - Give the mod your ROM, using either of these:
- put the ROM file in a folder named
mariocraftinside your.minecraftfolder, or - after a first launch, open
.minecraft/config/mariocraft.jsonand set"rom"to the full path of your ROM file.
- put the ROM file in a folder named
- Start a world. Mario appears in place of your player.
If the ROM is missing or not recognised, the game still runs as normal Minecraft and a chat message tells you why.
Multiplayer
- Singleplayer: everything works out of the box.
- Servers: Mario only takes over if the server also has Mariocraft 64 installed; otherwise you stay Steve, so you are never kicked for "moving too fast". Other players currently see you as a normal player.
Known limitations
- Music: SM64 music (for example the cap themes) does not play with the European ROM. Sound effects and Mario's voice work with both versions.
- Climbing: Mario cannot climb ladders or vines; they act as walls.
- Metal Cap: the cap works, but without the shiny reflection effect.
Credits
- libsm64: Super Mario 64 as a library
- The Super Mario 64 decompilation project
