Scavenge. Craft. Survive. A total survival-horror overhaul for the zombie apocalypse - where every pipe is a weapon, every gunshot is a mistake, and the ruins remember what you've cleared.
Loot Cities turns the wasteland into a genuine survival sandbox: a sizable improvised melee arsenal, a deep weapon-modding system, reactive infected AI that hears you, persistent region-by-region population, and a hand-built loot economy woven through Lost Cities, structures, and airdrops.
πͺ An Improvised Arsenal
Nearly 20 scavenged melee weapons, each with its own feel and tier:

- Sweeping strikes - the Fire Axe and Sledgehammer cleave through crowds of infected.
- Sledgehammer demolition - smash through stone and walls (a wrecking tool! no drops).
- Molotov Cocktails - throwable fire with real spread and particle effects.
π οΈ Weapon Modding - 14 Upgrades
Take any melee weapon to the workbench and rebuild it into something deadlier. Whatever weapon you put in is what you get out, upgraded:
- Pole-Mounted (+reach) · Counterweighted (knockback) · Head Weight & Reinforcement Plate (power/durability)
- Barbed Wrap (causes bleeding damage-over-time) · Serrated Edge (executes low-health infected) · Glass-Studded & Nail Studding (stackable damage bonus)
- Burning Brand (sets targets alight) · Disinfectant Edge (bonus vs. infected) · Rag Grip / Leather Handle (handling)
- Repairs — Zip-Tie/Duct-tape field repairs and Gun Oil for firearms
π©Ή Survival Gear
- Medical: Bandages, Painkillers, Epinephrine, Steroid Needle - patch yourself up before the next horde. Wounds slow you down (below 40% HP = −15% speed, below 20% = −30%).
- Hydration: Plastic Bottles, Metal Canteens, Expedition Canteens, Hiker's Thermos, Purification Tablets - a full water/thirst container line with fillable, multi-use variants.
- Food & morale: Energy Drinks, Trail Mix, Slim Jims, Instant Noodles, the Ramen Thermos, and more.
π The World Hears You — Reactive Noise & AI
Gunshots, breaking glass, and explosions broadcast noise that draws the infected.
- Real per-gun loudness - integrates with TACZ's own sound model, so a weapon is exactly as loud to the AI as it sounds to you. Suppressors are hugely rewarding.
- Distraction - throw nuts & bolts to pull wandering infected toward where they land (mobs already chasing you won't be fooled).
- Makes you think twice before pulling the trigger.
πΊοΈ Living Regions - DayZ-Style Spawn Governor
Infected populations are persistent and per-region (64×64 blocks). Clear a district and it stays cleared - population drains as you kill, slowly regenerates over days, and city density (via Lost Cities) drives how crowded an area gets.
π₯ Survivors (optional module)
Roaming NPC survivors that spawn in groups with varied aggression - ~70% melee / 30% gun-wielding - hunted by the infected just like you. Heavily WIP but functional right now.
π Seasons & Farming (optional modules)
- Seasonal difficulty (via Ecliptic Seasons) - horde windows and escalating danger as the year turns.
- Farming module - bone meal disabled, scarce seeds, and infected drawn to growing crops. Survival farming, not easy-mode.

A hand-tuned, modular loot economy threaded through the whole world:
- Curated loot for Lost Cities buildings, Big Lost City & Underground Bunker structures, Spore chests, and DYAirdrop crates.
- Procedural lore notes - 80+ lore fragments assembled into unique Written Books (2% chance in any chest).
- Treasure hunts - notes that point to real coordinates holding named, pre-upgraded weapons.
- Multi-step chain hunts that lead you across the map to Big Lost City structures.
- Realistic looted guns - TACZ firearms spawn with partially-filled magazines.
- Vanilla structures (villages, outposts, temples) removed for a consistent post-collapse world.
