Find out who changed a block, follow recorded item transfers, and review a rollback before applying it.
Logbook is a server-side logging and investigation mod for Minecraft server staff. It records supported activity with timestamps, locations and player identities where available. Search from chat, inspect individual records, and restore recorded block states in a selected area. Players do not need a client mod.
Investigate activity
- Search by area, time, player, action or object.
- Inspect block breaks and placements, lava and water changes, fire damage, explosions, sign edits, supported container interactions, item drops and pickups, menu access and villager trades.
- Read captured before and after block states and distinguish completed actions from observations.
- Save queries, preserve evidence with case holds, and export records for staff review.
- Keep local evidence available without an external service. Optional Loglibrarian support adds central evidence storage.
Stand near the affected area and use the commands in Minecraft chat:

Results show who did what, when it happened and the block coordinates, with five records per chat page. Details put the incident summary first; technical metadata is available separately. Clickable controls provide paging, refinement and evidence details. Use /lb refine to narrow the current search. This workflow runs on the server and needs no Companion installation.
Preview a rollback
Use /lb rollback range:8 after:2h player:Alex to prepare a preview, or select two corners with the Logbook wand. Review the affected blocks, skipped positions and overwrite differences, then apply the exact reviewed plan.
Rollback restores recorded block states. It does not reconstruct inventories, block-entity contents, entities or storage networks. A player-filtered rollback can overwrite later changes at the same positions, so review the preview before applying it.
Newly recorded lava spread and explosion damage can be included in a rewind. Logbook records actual block changes, including affected neighbouring blocks, and restores fluid sources before their recorded spread. Include the source and the affected area in your selection. Player attribution follows an observed cause; unknown causes stay unknown and are excluded by a player-only filter.
The screenshots use a real test incident with 13 TNT charges, 79 broken blocks and a lava bucket. Both command-only and Companion rewinds were checked against 29,791 saved block states. The comparison left only the block entities explicitly skipped by the preview, with no lava remaining.
Capture uses existing block callbacks and a bounded background write queue. Environmental capture has a per-tick limit and reports capture gaps if that limit is reached. Rewind works incrementally with a default limit of two positions per tick. It cannot recover changes that were never recorded, reconstruct dropped items or guarantee coverage of custom mod operations that bypass the supported hooks.

These block records depend on actions passing through the supported player hooks. They do not imply coverage of every machine, custom inventory or mod feature. Available integrations depend on the installed mod version. Run /lb coverage to check your server. When an integration does not supply an actor, Logbook leaves the actor unknown.
Optional Companion
Install Logbook Companion on a moderator's client for an in-world inspector, evidence map, ghost block holograms and visual rollback review. The server-only screenshot gallery demonstrates chat commands with Companion absent. Companion has its own separate gallery.
Installation
Choose the server JAR for your exact Minecraft version and loader:
- Minecraft 1.20.1: Fabric or Forge, Java 17 or newer.
- Minecraft 1.21.1: Fabric or NeoForge, Java 21 or newer.
Place it in the server's mods folder, restart, then run /lb status and /lb coverage. Staff commands require permission level 4. Fabric API, Architectury API and an external database service are not required by Logbook.
