What's new

Loam & Vessel 2.8.7

New: Pack Pot Upgrade (Sophisticated Backpacks) 🌱

A little pot that rides on top of your backpack and grows a plant as you go.

  • Install it in any backpack upgrade slot. Its menu has a plant slot, a color slot (any concrete, terracotta or glazed terracotta sets the pot's color), a hopper slot, and five output slots.
  • Add a hopper and the pot empties its harvest straight into the backpack. Pair it with feeding or cooking upgrades for a hands-free food loop.
  • Shows on worn, placed and mob backpacks, and leans back as the wearer looks up.
  • Mobs that spawn with backpacks have a chance of carrying a pack pot, planted with something that grows in their biome. Set the chance with packPot.mobChance in the config (default 0.25, 0 turns it off).
  • Removing the upgrade drops its contents into the backpack, or into the world if there's no room.
  • Only appears when Sophisticated Backpacks is installed.

New: Sproutling Hat

A wearable pot with a plant growing out of the top of your head.

  • Grows only while worn in the head armor slot, and gives half a point of armor.
  • Has a plant slot, a color slot and a small three-slot harvest inventory.
  • Open it by right-clicking it in your inventory, or by sneaking and right-clicking while holding it.

What portable pots can grow

The Pack Pot and Sproutling Hat accept any one-block-tall plant that roots in solid ground, whatever that ground is: dirt, sand, nylium, soul soil, end stone, mud, logs, or another mod's soil. That covers flowers, ferns, grasses, roots and herbs from other mods. Trees, vines, water and lava plants, and two-block-tall plants are left out. Both are drawn at half height, so the plant looks like it is sprouting from your backpack or your head.

Changed

  • Hoppers on planter pots now move items into the container below at vanilla hopper speed. Taking the hopper out is the off switch.
  • JEI now shows how each pot is crafted, one recipe per pot material.
  • Chorus now gives chorus fruit, and adds the flower itself only with a Silk Touch tool, matching vanilla. Chorus needs end stone as its substrate. Chorus also joins the Harvest Festival spill.
  • Hexerei crystal ball: the sun and moon are twice their old size, so the moon phase is easy to read at a glance.

Fixed

  • Farmer's Delight tomatoes (and other budding crops) now grow into their real crop and give real tomatoes, not just seeds.
  • Bountiful Fares tea leaves now drop when shears are in the pot's tool slot.
  • Supplementaries flax no longer draws a phantom top half while young.
  • Upgrade Aquatic pickerelweed and Cold Sweat soul stalk now grow as stalks, like reeds and cattails.
  • Inlays on tabletop pots: paintings, pottery sherds, maps and Exposure photographs now fill the panel top to bottom and mirror across it, like material inlays, instead of sitting as a tiny image in the middle. Tall pots are unchanged.
  • Floating candles follow the room. Candles in pots keep checking the light around them, so they light when a room goes dark and go out when it is lit again, not just when first placed.
  • Candles no longer see their own glow. Lit candles in pots give a soft, dim light that can never trick them into thinking the room is lit.

For pack makers

  • The growth index and JEI refresh are hardened, so one misbehaving plant from another mod can't empty every growth page.
  • Anything the growth index skips is logged at debug level, so a missing plant can be traced in debug.log.
