Version 1.5 — Echoes of 1.1.8
Digging through the beta 1.1.8 patch jar turned up a whole chapter that was cut before 1.5.1 ever shipped — and a search of the world itself turned up something better: the arena was real all along. This update puts all of it back.
The Arena, found
- The real arena has been there since 2013 — a sunken fighting pit south of Port Juno at (-82, 376). The original's Arena teleport pointed at empty jungle over a kilometer away; nobody could ever have found it. The teleport now lands you on the arena's north walkway.
- The Champion ladder, realized. The beta's cut ARENA_Warrior is now a full 8-round gauntlet run by the new Arena Master: pay the fee, face Gladius, Secundus, Ferrox, Thraxus, Aurelian, Morbane, Vex — and finally The Executioner. Each round hits harder and pays better: coins scatter on victory and every round awards experience. Your ladder progress saves with your character.
- Each champion wears his own skin, from the Bandit Leader's colors up through the Executioner's hood. (These were rendering garbled — the skins were drawn for a custom model that never shipped; they've been remastered for the standard body.)
Restored cut content (from beta 1.1.8)
- The jungle village lives again. Five villagers — Motombo, Mombo, Kongo, Bongo and Klaus — now stand around the treetop huts, each with their original quest: fish for Motombo, water remains for Mombo, a riddle carved on a forgotten statue for Kongo, a duel for Bongo, and Klaus just wants someone to talk to. Help all five and the village pays a 300-gold reward. Dialogue and rewards follow the beta's own strings.
- The Lava Zombie stalks the Vulcano. 150 HP, hits like a truck, immune to fire, trails lava particles. The beta's bounty comes with it: kill 4 for a coin reward.
- The Zombie Knight answers Bongo's challenge. A 500 HP duel boss summoned by Bongo — beat it and the whole village hears about it.
- Spell bolts show their true colors. Every staff now fires its own spell sprite from the original mageSpells sheet instead of a generic bolt — each element looks like its item card promised.
Travel, landed properly
- No more tree-top or underground arrivals. The teleporter now sees through the canopy — leaves and canopy logs don't count as ground — and demands real standing headroom before it puts you anywhere. Landings snap to block centers so you never materialize inside a seam.
- Vulcano no longer drops you in the ocean. The landing site moved onto the volcano's shore, and the ground search casts a wider net so shoreline destinations find dry land.
UI fixes
- Attributes screen: the Close button no longer sits on top of your stats — the layout is compacted so everything reads clear.
- Mount shop: the horse's price no longer overlaps the Buy button.
