Latitude — Changelog (1.2.2 → 1.2.4 Beta)
1.2.3 not released publicly
⚠️ This is a beta stabilization release. The goal of this cycle was to fix regressions introduced after 1.2.2, restore biome correctness, and stabilize world logic across all world sizes. I'm a one-woman crew, so thanks for bearing with me! 😸
✅ Major Fixes & Improvements
🌍 World Radius & Latitude Accuracy
- Fixed radius mismatches between:
- World border
- HUD latitude readout
- Biome selection math
- Latitude degrees, biome bands, and warnings now correctly scale across all world sizes (Itty Bitty → Ginormous!).
❄️ Climate & Biome Corrections
- Restored missing biomes (e.g., taiga, grove, pale garden, cherry grove, etc.).
- Enhanced variety of climate bands:
- Swamps are now more common.
- Included mangrove swamps.
- Reduced "endless jungle" generation.
- Improved subpolar and polar consistency:
- Snow and ice no longer leak into tropics/equator.
- Better biome blending between cool temperate and snowy subpolar zones.
🧭 Hazard & Warning Logic
- Polar warning effects are now properly gated by latitude, preventing early triggers.
- World border and polar hazard math is now unified and consistent.
🏔️ Terrain & Generation Stability
- Confirmed mountains and elevation variation are generating correctly.
- Fixed issues causing biomes to feel overly flat in certain bands.
🧭 HUD & UI Changes
- Compass HUD: Fixed "Attach to Hotbar" mode to anchor to the right side, preventing overlap with health/armor overlays.
- Keybinds: Changed the default key to hide the HUD from
Ktocomma (,)to avoid conflicts with shader reloading.
⚠️ Known Issues & Disclaimers
- East–West Fog (Sodium): Fog does not currently render when Sodium is enabled. This is cosmetic only and does not affect gameplay.
- Cave Oddities: Some exposed cave features may still appear in edge cases at high latitudes; a fix is planned for the next pass.
⏳ IMPORTANT: First World Load Time
When creating a Latitude world for the first time, you may experience a long initial loading time. This is normal. Latitude performs additional setup (radius sync, biome math prep, tag resolution) during the first initialization. Subsequent loads will be fast and normal.
🔮 Planned Next Steps
- Sodium-compatible EW fog implementation.
- Further biome transition smoothing.
- Optional difficulty and realism toggles.
