Italian Delight Remade

Unnofficial 1.20.1 port of Italian Delight, mod was remade from scratch

Requires Brewin' and Chewin'

Feedback in comments is appreciated! Thank you. (Please be nice/respectful)

This is a 1.20.1 port/remake from scratch of the original Italian's Delight mod (https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/italians-delight), which was abandoned by the original developer PuurpZ and had a MIT license. The original Italian Delight was started on MCreator and so is this mod (with some custom code to fill in the gaps).

Some parts are still missing and/or adapted. JEI recommended. This is my first mod and I've been trying my best to slowly rebuild Italian Delight while learning along the way. The full update history is on Modrinth.

Some nice new thing: this mod port has a lot more compatibility tags than the original.
Please note: I'm a very busy person doing this in my free time. Updates may take long.

Warning: updating from the original 1.19.2 might disappear some blocks/items, I think most things kept the same codenames but I don't remember what was changed. It probably won't break your world, just don't try to keep the dynamic trees addon with it (this mod is still lacking the olive trees).

Chances for a 1.21.1?

Slim but possible, it would take a while. I'm trying to finish my job with 1.20.1 for now. I've tried to convert the project to 1.21.1 as a test, but some custom code things broke (all the pizza/crop blockstates basically) and would have to be remade. I'm still a 1.20.1 player, so maybe when I move to 1.21.1 I'll work on this.

What is this new item?

Some things (Ciambellone) weren't added yet in the original mod but already had a texture+model in the original mod files ready to be used so I took this chance to implement them into the game, since they're "official" items of the original mod anyway. Wild herbs and wild grapes were even visible in the original, they just weren't spawning yet (to my knowledge)

What happened to the original creator? (Story time?)

He has been called many many times but is not responding it's been 2 years. Maybe he lost the motivation to maintain it. In the meantime a few remaining devs in the Discord server (link on original mod's page) could not port the original code to 1.20.1 on their own due to too many errors, so I suggested remaking the mod since it's "small", but nobody was willing to step up since it's been a while and that's a lot of work (more than I knew back then) so as some players asked me to do it and said "we need to cook" I just went ahead and tried to do it right there uploading my files in the server since I love this mod and have a little experience as game dev (Java is very new to me though). I got the approval of the Discord server owner to post in the official mod announcements and he gave me the Lead Dev role there, so honestly I'm still unsure how official/unnofficial this is. PuurpZ won't respond, so it's only a partial approval, but his license was open thankfully, and one of the devs had forked the project on Github which I've been using as some reference for assets and values.

Some new weird recipes?

I made some things craftable through new means (e.g. olive, olive wood) so you could obtain them before the proper sources were added. See details below in differences.

Please add this pasta?

Right now I'm only trying to recover the original mod, maybe in the future I can make new things as a new addon mod, but not here.

You mentioned MCreator, does this mod run well?

Yes, this is a logically simple mod that just adds items/recipes/etc, no mobs. It runs pretty lightly. Many Farmer's Delight addons use MCreator. I still always use this in my modpacks just in case: https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/mcreatormemfix

Main differences between the original and the remake:

  • The whole code was built from 0 for 1.20.1, and also adapted to use the newer Brewin' and Chewin' keg interface.
  • "New" items that actually already had a texture and were waiting in the files to be added to the original mod got added here: Ciambellone + its slices, Pandoro's placeable block, Panettone's placeable block. Ciambellone didn't have a model so I might have to make it (it's using cake model).
  • Worldgen now includes wild herbs (anywhere), wild grapes (plains). Subject to change. If you struggle to find them, you can craft them (see "original recipes" below).
  • Tag compatibility: many tags were added to recipes for cross-mod compatibility.
  • Translations were added: Italian (by elmunta_fort on Discord); Brazilian Portuguese/Japanese/Chinese (by me);
  • Renaming the renamed: Names the creator was unsure between like "prosciutto pizza" and "ham pizza" (same food), were merged in English like "ham pizza (prosciutto)" to make it easier to recognise while still being educational about the Italian names.
  • You can't break grass to get the grape seeds anymore, the original mod planned to change that so wild grapes now have their own plant. It's also to avoid "player breaks block" lag due to how Mcreator coding works.
  • It's still unfinished/in Beta, some things (such as olive tree worldgen) are still missing, check logs to know version situation, if you find something else missing or a bug please inform.
    Original recipes:
  • Some "let's make the transition easier" recipes:
+ Craftable olive (sweet berry+lime dye),
+ Craftable grape (sweet berry+purple dye),
+ Craftable olive log (olive+any log). [will be removed once I add trees]
They're supposed to be provisory but I'm rethinking them since people struggle with needing to generate new chunks for worldgen crops to spawn. What do you think?
  • Fern can be cooked into herb leaves. This was going to be removed once I added the wild herbs worldgen but I've been considering leaving it as is, because honestly it's kind of neat, fern is technically a herb that can be heated to have its toxicity removed for consumption in real life (but don't try this at home). It also doesn't cause any gameplay balancing issues.
  • Herb leaves were given a use (margherita), since it's very likely it was going to be used there anyway, judging by the pizzza texture that has those same big herb leaves.

What's the same:

  • All the original food! All of it has been added already! (just 2 have place and cut/eat features missing, use the cutting board for them)
  • All the olive wood items!
  • Mod id, and most of mod item ids are the same to try to keep some compatibility (but procceed with caution, items might disappear if the id name has changed! tell me if you find a case like that. (Also, I'll try to warn if I change ids in the Beta logs)
  • The features (wine effects, ability to cut pizza, etc) are all being mimicked.
  • The textures, the models
  • All the original mod's recipes (but with more compatibility!)
