Here you can see floating in the sky island, that you are supposed to survive. Of course you need some mods, ExNihilo will perfectly do just that. If you really want automation, you can use ExAstris, and ExCompressum.
This mod is aimed at letting each person have their own island.
To live on an island create an "Island" world. (for servers: set "world-type" to "ISLANDS" in server.properties)
Then when anyone spawns they will own an island.
You can change island template by exporting island from center (stand in the center and use /ic export <width> <height> <depth> W,H,D are half of the island because it offsets these X,Y,Z from center from X-W,Y-H,Z-D to X+W,Y+H,Z+D)
Note: When exporting don't do anything silly. Though it does support the TileEntity movement some tiles don't like being moved.
You can also save them to a file, and then build them where you want.
