Iron Backpacks (Unofficial Port)
📜 Original mod
This is an unofficial port of Iron Backpacks 3.0.8 by gr8pefish, TehNut and the Iron Backpacks contributors (Minecraft 1.12.2). Original source: github.com/gr8pefish/IronBackpacks, license GPL-3.0, which allows derivative works; this port keeps GPL-3.0. All of the content, art, sounds and ideas are the original authors'.
How this port differs from the original
- Runs on Minecraft 1.21.1, 26.1.2, 26.2 and 26.3 with NeoForge and Fabric; the original is for 1.12.2 Forge.
- Keeps the 1.12.2 behaviour, numbers, textures, sounds and translations, and adds Ukrainian and Portuguese (Brazil) translations.
- Works with Curios and Accessories.
- No more item duplication through an open backpack (#234, #268): the backpack GUI now closes as soon as its backpack leaves the player (dropped, or pulled out by another mod).
- Contents are no longer lost or reverted by inventory sorters (#255, #221): every change is saved into the backpack at once, not only when the GUI closes.
- The open key respects the Latch upgrade (it opened anyone's latched backpack) and plays the opening sound (#243).
Tiered backpacks with modular upgrades, back on modern Minecraft.
Iron Backpacks by gr8pefish and contributors was a staple of 1.12.2 modpacks and stopped there. This port brings version 3.0.8 to Minecraft 1.21.1, 26.1.2, 26.2 and 26.3 for NeoForge and Fabric, keeping the original numbers, textures, sounds and behaviour: if you used it in a 1.12.2 pack, it works the way you remember.

Features
- Four tiers: Basic (18 slots, 4 upgrade points); Iron, Gold and Diamond, each with a storage emphasis (more slots, up to 77 in the diamond one) or an upgrade emphasis (+5 upgrade points).
- Tier up without losing anything: craft the next tier around your backpack; items, upgrades and owner carry over.
- Upgrades: Damage Bar (how full it is), Latch (only the owner can open it), Extra Upgrade Point, Everlasting (a dropped backpack never despawns). Installed on an anvil, the last one taken off with shears.
- Open it anywhere: right click, or the I key opens the backpack in your hand, offhand or inventory.
- Colours: dye any backpack; a water bucket washes the colour out.
- Config: switch upgrades off, blacklist items that can't go into backpacks.
- JEI: an "Increase Backpack Tier" category, every backpack variant and upgrade as its own entry.
- 8 languages: English, Russian, Ukrainian, German, Spanish, Portuguese (Brazil), Chinese, Swedish (partly, as in 1.12.2).

Installation
- Put the jar for your loader into
mods/on the server and on every client (Fabric: with Fabric API).
Performance
1.0.2 no longer rebuilds a backpack's whole inventory every frame for its name, durability bar and model: with 400 backpacks on the ground the frame rate went from 140 to 190 FPS, 36 backpacks in an open inventory cost about as much as shulker boxes.
