🪶 Dig up and learn the lost art of Inscription.

Give your gear something extra, Inscription adds equipment customization with 40+ Affixes. Spend Bottled Ink, chase the combination you want, and learn a lost alphabet to eventually choose your Inscriptions yourself.

Your path to mastering it starts with the Runes buried in Minecraft's archaeology sites.

✒️ The Inscription Table

Each supported piece of equipment can carry one Prefix and one Suffix: two extra effects to play with. At the Inscription Table, you use Bottled Ink to roll for them and gamble your way towards that Perfect Roll.

With 23 Prefixes and 23 Suffixes, there's plenty to experiment with. Swords, Axes, Bows and Shields are only part of it: Shears, Fishing Rods and even Brushes have something to gain.

📖 From lucky rolls to choosing your own

The chase has a destination. After completing the milestones and learning all 26 Rune letters, you start to understand Minecraft's enchanting-table alphabet (SGA), letting you freely choose your Enchantments and Inscriptions.

🏺 Archaeology Overhaul

Archaeology is how you uncover that alphabet. Every archaeology site can turn up a Rune, one of 26 collectible letters. Learning one is permanent and shared by everyone in the world, so discoveries contribute to your world's knowledge.

Learned Runes move you forward in Inscription's own milestone progression system, the Rune Monument. Along the way, you can unearth Relics and unlock gear that makes the next expedition easier.

We've also reworked every archaeology loot table to feel more rewarding and include our new additions. Sites now carry more Suspicious Blocks than vanilla, with their abundance controlled by a single configuration value.

Brushing a Suspicious Block and finding a Rune

📖 The Rune Monument

The Monument tracks your world's Rune knowledge and seven personal milestones. Claiming milestones unlocks rewards, including equipment to speed up your digging and help you find Suspicious Blocks:

  • Four Brush tiers: Iron, Gold, Diamond and Netherite, each faster and more durable than the last.
  • The Monocle: Helps reveal Suspicious Blocks.
  • The Runic Compass: Scans nearby chunks and points to the closest Suspicious Block.

🗿 Relics

Runes aren't the only reason to bring a Brush. These Relics come only from archaeology and are never craftable:

  • Wolf Statue: Every player inside its range deals bonus damage to undead. Found in the Desert.
  • Cat Statue: Creepers and Phantoms refuse to approach within its range. Found in Trail Ruins.
  • Sunken Wail: Raises three friendly Drowned to fight alongside you. Found in Ocean Ruins.

Once you are established, Sniffers become a Runic Essence source: every successful dig has a 30% chance to turn up one Essence alongside the seed.
