Merchant Name Outline
Makes the villager / wandering trader name in the trading screen readable again.
Vanilla draws that name in dark grey (#404040) at a hard-coded spot at the top of the screen. Resource packs that put a picture there, such as an animated villager face in a custom trading GUI, leave dark text on a dark background that you can barely see. This mod draws the name as black text with a white outline instead, so it stays legible on any background.
Features
- Black name with a 1px white outline, with or without a trader level (
Name - Novice) - Works with any resource pack or GUI overhaul, nothing to configure
- Only the merchant's name changes. The "Inventory" and "Trades" labels are untouched
- No new items, blocks, config files or network traffic
Requirements
- Minecraft 1.20.1
- Forge 47.x
- Client side only. Do not install it on a dedicated server (installing it there does nothing)
Compatibility
- Tested with Immersive Interfaces and Minecraft Reimagined.
- The mod changes one vanilla method,
MerchantScreen.renderLabels. If another mod rewrites the same call, this one steps aside instead of crashing and the vanilla name is drawn. - When the hook is active,
latest.logcontains[merchant_name_outline] armed:the first time a trading screen is opened.
Why not just a resource pack?
The name's position and colour are hard-coded in vanilla's trading screen. Resource packs and Polytone's title_y_offset / title_color can't change them, so a code change is needed.
