Illuminations Reimagined adds ambient lights that make dark places feel alive. It behaves like the original mod, with its bugs fixed and all-new textures.
It is client-side only: it works on any server, including vanilla servers, and nothing needs to be installed on the server.
Effects
- Fireflies: at night, within a few blocks of the ground in forests, swamps, rivers, jungles, taigas, plains and savannas. Their colour depends on the biome, and they are drawn to nearby light.
- Glowworms: hanging from cave ceilings under forests, swamps, rivers and other green biomes. They drop if their ceiling is broken.
- Plankton: tiny glowing specks in dark ocean water.
- Chorus petals: drifting from chorus flowers, with a burst of petals when a flower breaks.
- Prismarine crystals: floating in the water around sea lanterns.
- Will o' wisps: small glowing spirits that rise from soul sand in Soul Sand Valleys and slip out of soul lanterns, leaving trails of sparks.
- Pumpkin spirits and poltergeists: Halloween spirits (in October by default, at night). Pumpkin spirits burst out of jack o'lanterns; poltergeists rise from skeleton skulls and from undead that die at night.
- Eyes in the dark: in October (configurable), watching from pitch-black spots. They vanish if you come close or bring light.
Compatibility
- Fabric: requires Fabric API. Settings open from Mod Menu (optional).
- NeoForge and Forge: settings open from the Mods screen.
- Works with Sodium and Iris (and Embeddium and Oculus on 1.20.1). With shader packs such as Complementary, the lights glow.
Settings
Everything can be adjusted in game or in config/illuminations_reimagined.json:
- a master switch and overall density (0 to 1000%)
- per-biome firefly, glowworm and plankton rates and firefly colours
- a switch per dimension, including modded dimensions
- seasonal settings for the eyes and the Halloween spirits
- firefly options: daytime, underground, rainbow, core brightness, light attraction
- a maximum count for every effect
Changes from the original
- Removed: donor cosmetics (auras, crowns, halos, pets and similar), the cosmetics dashboard and its online player lookups, and the self-updater.
- Fixed: fireflies that never died, teleported onto light sources or dived to the bottom of the world; spirits that froze after touching the ground; plankton floating out of the water into the sky; effects spawning in unloaded chunks; and unlimited particle counts.
The full list is in the changelog.
