Description

ID5 Cryptic Notes

Nine heirloom relics. Five paths. A price for every secret.

ID5 Cryptic Notes is an RPG-flavoured content expansion for Minecraft 1.20.1 (Forge). Instead of adding another ore or another boss, it hands you a class, a keyboard full of skills, and a satchel of strange, half-cursed heirlooms whose real value is never printed on the label.

Everything is built to sit on top of vanilla survival: no new dimensions, no forced progression, no mob grind. Play a normal world — the mod just gives you a past you did not choose.

Five classes, five ways to move

Right-click the Letter of Identity you receive on your first spawn, or press K, to open the class panel. You can switch later on a 10-minute cooldown (Creative mode is exempt). Every class carries its own HUD bar showing skill state, charges and cooldown.

Undead

  • Skill — a crosshair dash of up to 16 blocks. Hitting any living entity stops the dash and deals damage plus 3 seconds of Stun. Two charges, one recharging every 8 seconds.
  • Aid skill — pick one of three in the panel and cast it with the aid key (default G): Assault (thrown book, 10 damage, 3.5 s stun), Tracking (marks containers within 14 blocks and reveals enemies with Glowing) or Reveal (short-range Glowing on a very short cooldown). Changing your aid skill takes 150 seconds.
  • Passive — permanent Strength II and Resistance II, halved Slowness, and 1 heart healed per kill.

Sage

  • Skill — sense chests and barrels within 32 blocks: coordinates in chat, markers in the world.
  • Passive — Haste I while a container is within 16 blocks; Haste II for 3 seconds when you take damage.

Trailblazer

  • Skill — a 1.5-second dash that follows your view as you turn, damaging and stunning everything it hits, with Resistance II while dashing.
  • Passive — halved Slowness; Haste I for 8 seconds after opening a container or picking up items.

Herald

  • Skill — throw a healing letter that mends players and friendly mobs along its path, and instantly heal yourself for 6 hearts.
  • Passive — +50% healing received. On lethal damage you dissolve into a flying letter: immune to damage and harmful effects for 8 seconds, then 3 seconds of Resistance V, Speed III and Regeneration III. 120-second cooldown.

Warrior

  • Skill — a look-direction slash-dash of up to 8 blocks against hostile mobs; aim straight up or down to dash vertically. You are immune to all damage while dashing and keep Resistance III for a second afterwards. Hits build Edge stacks. Three charges, one every 15 seconds.
  • Passive — +25% damage per Edge stack (max 3, one stack per 5 blocks walked, decaying one every 10 seconds), all stacks consumed by a single attack; kills restore hunger.

Relics and curious objects

Dozens of items, most of them animated with GeckoLib models and custom renderers.

Weapons

  • Forgotten Faith — a heavy polearm with 6 blocks of attack reach, a hunger-fuelled charge dash, and a two-handed brace (hold sneak + right-click for up to 5 seconds) that shrugs off all damage. A successful brace answers with a close-range slam and Resistance IV. Red Tassel Spear and Fangtian Halberd skins included.
  • Protector's Cane — release a fully charged right-click (2 s) to lunge and slam nearby foes; sneak + right-click throws a spinning, iron-sword-shaped cane that applies Slowness VI for 6 seconds. Chinese Sword and Thousand Demon Blade skins included.
  • Loaded Shotgun — 24 rounds fired on right-click. Sneak + right-click spends 2 gunpowder to load 2 shells.
  • Burning Resentment — hold to spray flame without breaking your pose; the item key (default F) triggers a wide ignite on a 10-second cooldown.

Protective trinkets

  • Silver Nightingale Candlestick — while it sits anywhere in your inventory, one is consumed to save you from lethal damage.
  • Thurible — survives a killing blow and restores 10 health, with a 5-minute cooldown.
  • Eye of Lies — 4 armor, 300 durability, Night Vision while worn on the head.
  • Phonograph — raises a 15-second field in which monsters cannot enter and you take no damage.
  • First Aid Syringe — a 2-second cast that heals 6 health, four uses per syringe.

Utility and mischief

  • Bottled Wisp — blasts living mobs within 8 blocks away and stuns them for 5 seconds when they land.
  • Prancing Taunt — throw it and a decoy of yourself appears where it lands; mobs switch to the decoy, which then explodes.
  • Seal of Respite — consume it to return to your spawn point.
  • Mint Box — toggles permanent Speed for a total of five minutes of use.
  • Lantern — a toggleable beam that burns one durability per second.
  • Prayer Bell — ring it; the clear tone seems to call back those who sleep too long. Its true power has yet to awaken.
  • Collectibles — Tea Pot, Red Coral, Golden Tattered Page, Gilded Chalice, Opera Mask and the Silver Statue of Terpsichore belong to the nine verse texts of Cryptic Notes, kept as tradable heirlooms.

The Cursed Sapphire

Right-click a Cursed Sapphire to appraise it. Chain material, iridescence and gem clarity are rolled separately and add up to a total, which decides what you are actually holding — Unique, Rare, Splendid, or, rarely, a Delusional Masterpiece. The stone is replaced by its appraised form, worth anywhere from 300,000 to 3,000,000.

Worn in the Curios necklace slot, a sapphire also slows nearby monsters. High-value stones are, predictably, worth wearing and worth stealing.

Curios integration

Curios API support is optional and detected at runtime — the mod runs fine without it. With it installed:

  • Necklace slot — Cursed Sapphire
  • Head slot — Eye of Lies
  • Hands slot — Protector's Cane and the Silver Nightingale Candlestick

ProjectE compatibility

ProjectE support is optional: if the mod is present, every relic is registered with a custom EMC value so it can be transmuted. Values (1W = 10,000 EMC):

  • Cursed Sapphire 60W · Cursed Sapphire (1.4M) 140W · appraised sapphires 30W–300W
  • Bottled Wisp 50W · Opera Mask 30W · Gilded Chalice 20W · Red Coral 15W · Golden Tattered Page 10W
  • Tea Pot 8W · Mint Box 8W · Loaded Shotgun 5W · Seal of Respite 5W · Silver Statue of Terpsichore 4W
  • Burning Resentment 2.5W · Eye of Lies 2.5W · Silver Nightingale Candlestick 2W · Forgotten Faith 2W
  • Protector's Cane 1.5W · Phonograph 1.2W · Thurible 0.4W · First Aid Syringe 0.4W · Lantern 0.4W · Prancing Taunt 0.35W

Controls

All keys are rebindable in Options → Controls.

  • Skill key — use your class skill
  • K — open the class panel
  • F — use the held item's special ability
  • G — cast the aid skill
