Description
Handy Den: Pocket Dimensions
A little tent you can pitch anywhere. Step inside and it's a whole cabin of your own.
Handy Den is a canvas A-frame tent that's bigger on the inside. Pitch it in a forest, on a mountain, next to your mine or out at the edge of the world, walk through the flap, and you're in your own cozy log cabin in a pocket dimension. Pack the tent up and take it with you: the room keeps everything exactly as you left it, and it'll be waiting wherever you pitch the tent next.
Grow the cabin, add rooms off it, give it a big grassy field for your cows, a barn for your animals, and a glass roof with whatever weather you like. It's made for players who travel light.
Getting started
Craft the tent: white wool on top and down the sides (a little canvas peak), an ender pearl in the middle, and two copper ingots with a diamond along the bottom.
Pitch it: use it on flat, solid ground. It needs a spot 2 wide, 3 deep and 2 high, and its door faces you.
Go in: right-click the tent. You step into your den: a 7x7 log cabin with a plank floor, canvas walls, stripped-spruce beams and hanging lanterns.
Come out: use the door in the cabin wall and you step out in front of the tent.
Pack it up: break the tent. It drops as an item that remembers its den, and everything inside stays. The item never despawns and can't burn. Pitch it somewhere else and it opens into the same room.
If someone packs up the tent while you're inside, you're walked out to where it stood. Nobody gets stuck.
The den panel
Beside the door hangs a brass panel. Right-click it to open the den's menu:
the Additions slot on the left, where expansions and Den Rooms go (they're used up) ten upgrade slots on the right, each with an on/off switch; some have a little button that opens a list of choices
The bigger your den, the more upgrade slots are open.
Growing the den Addition Room Upgrade slots Recipe (starting den) 7x7 3 Den Expansion I 11x11 5 iron, amethyst, ender pearls Den Expansion II 15x15 7 gold, eyes of ender, a diamond Den Expansion III 21x21 10 shulker shells, an eye of ender, a netherite ingot
Expansions go in order. The walls, door, panel and lanterns move out; nothing you placed is touched.
Den Rooms
A Den Room (logs, a wooden door, amethyst and an ender pearl) adds a room beside the main room, behind a real door you can leave open. Up to four: two on each side. While your den is small you reach them through an archway and a little lobby; each expansion brings them closer, and at full size their doors open straight off the main room. Rooms never move, so whatever you put in them stays put.
Upgrades
Every upgrade is a canvas patch: copper and white wool around something that says what it does.
Keep Running (clock): the den keeps working while you're away, even with the tent packed. Furnaces smelt, crops grow, brewing finishes.
Spawn Point (any bed): sleep in a bed in your den and you respawn there after dying, wherever the tent is.
Skylight (daylight detector): the ceilings turn to glass. You see the real sun, moon and stars, plus your den's own weather, whatever it's doing outside. Pick from Clear, Overcast, Drizzle, Rain, Thunderstorm, Snow, Blizzard, Fog or Golden Hour. Rain on the roof on a sunny day, a snowy den in the desert, a golden-hour glow any time you like. Just for looks: nothing gets wet.
Biome Room (any sapling): adds a big 25x25 room of a biome you pick, off a hallway behind the main room. It has three blocks of real ground (grass and dirt, sand and sandstone, mycelium, nylium...), that biome's plants, and a glass roof open to the sky. Farm it, fill it with cows, grow a jungle. Twelve biomes: Plains, Flower Forest, Cherry Grove, Jungle, Desert, Badlands, Savanna, Snowy Taiga, Swamp, Mushroom Fields, Crimson Forest and Warped Forest. Install as many as you have slots for: each one is its own room. You can change a room's biome until you've put your own things in it; after that it's locked (clear your things out and it unlocks again).
Menagerie (a lead): adds a barn off the hallway: a centre aisle with 14 fenced stalls, each with a gate, a hay bale and a water trough. Keep and show off your animals and villagers. The stalls are ordinary blocks, so rearrange them however you like.
Take a Biome Room or Menagerie upgrade out (or switch it off) and its door is walled up, with everything inside kept. Put it back and the same room opens again.
Carrying animals
Sneak and right-click an animal or villager with an empty hand to pick it up. Everyone sees it in your arms. Sneak and right-click a block to set it down. Carry your favourite cow into the den, or a villager into its new stall.
You can only carry your own pets, never monsters. If you die carrying something, it's set down where you fell. Animals on your lead, and pets following you, come through the tent flap with you too.
Sharing
Your dens are yours. Let friends in with /den trust <player>: they can go into and pack up all your dens. /den untrust takes it back, and /den trusted shows the list.
Admins: /den list shows every den, and /den give <id> hands out a tent for one.
Good to know Minecraft 26.2, Fabric. Needs Fabric API. Required on both client and server. You can't pitch a tent inside a den. Rooms are unbreakable and blast-proof, and anyone who slips outside them is put back in. The den dimension shares the Overworld's time of day.
