A Fabric mod for Minecraft 26.3 where tools and armour are not crafted in a grid. You smelt, mix, cast, forge, quench, temper, grind and assemble them yourself, one step at a time, and what comes out depends on how well you did each step.
The process
- Crush ore on a stone anvil with a hammer. Each lump of raw ore gives two pieces of crushed ore.
- Light the forge with charcoal or coal and flint and steel. Pump the bellows for more heat.
- Melt and mix in a fired clay crucible. Whatever you put in is the alloy you get.
- Cast an ingot by carrying the crucible with tongs to an ingot mould.
- Forge the hot ingot on the anvil. The bar is eight segments of thickness; each blow moves metal, and a sneaking blow upsets it. Work it too cold and it cracks, too hot and it burns.
- Quench in water to set the shape. Steel quenched from cherry red hardens, and is brittle until tempered.
- Temper hardened steel in an unblown fire and pull it out between straw and blue.
- Grind an edge on a grindstone, then assemble on the anvil with a stick, leather, or extra armour plates, and finish with one last blow.
Looking at a forge, anvil or mould shows a readout of the heat, the shape against the plan, and the next step. New players are handed The Smith's Handbook in game.
Alloys
| Alloy | Mix |
|---|---|
| Bronze | 7 copper : 1 tin |
| Brass | 2 copper : 1 zinc |
| Steel | 1 charcoal dust per 1-3 iron ingots (more makes brittle cast iron) |
| Electrum | gold + silver |
| Rose gold | 3 gold : 1 copper |
| Sterling silver | silver + a little copper |
| Netherite steel | steel + 1 netherite scrap per 3 iron ingots |
Tin, zinc and silver ore generate underground. Anything else you mix becomes a weaker "crude alloy".
Requirements
Needs Fabric Loader 0.19.5+ and Fabric API.
Licence
MIT. The ore block textures are composited over Minecraft's own stone and deepslate textures, which remain Mojang's.
