HUGE UPDATE!!
# Grim Soul Industries changelog: 2.0.0 to 2.1.19
Newest first. Mod version and NeoForge 1.21.1.
## 2.1.19 — Fixes
- **Jade:** the Grim Soul machine info option has a name in the Jade settings, so it no longer logs a missing translation.
## 2.1.18 — Soul Forge power and inventory grid
- **Power from any side:** every casing of a formed Soul Forge passes power to the forge. Pipes and generators can connect to any face of the cube, top, bottom or sides.
- **Inventory grid:** the Soul Forge GUI now draws the background for the player inventory and hotbar slots.
## 2.1.17 — Layout fixes
- **Spawner:** the "Mobs/min" line moved up beside the spawn rate, so it no longer sits on the power and redstone buttons.
- **Virtualization Chamber:** the "FE" and "Run" labels moved left, clear of the progress bar.
## 2.1.16 — Dossier fix
- **Loot Dossier shows loot:** the dossier read the bound mob from a copy of the core that the client never receives, so it always said "Bind a Soul Card". It now reads the core from the synced menu slot.
## 2.1.15 — Spawn rules and spawner rate
- **Solid ground only:** an Essence Spawner mob only appears standing on a solid block. It never spawns over air, water or lava, in any mode.
- **Card overrides:** the default spawn rules (light level and the usual vanilla checks) still apply with no cards. The No Light and Ignore Spawn Conditions cards still skip those rules, as before.
- **Spawner rate line:** the Spawner screen shows mobs per minute under its nearby count.
- **Pipes:** the XP Tank drains as liquid XP and the Reaper's items can be extracted by pipes, as before.
## 2.1.14 — Dossier, layout and range fixes
- **Loot Dossier updates itself:** the preview is sampled automatically when the Soul Card, the core, or the Looting and Player Kill cards change. Re-sample still works.
- **Chamber layout:** the card row is tighter, so the Boss Core card no longer overlaps the "FE" and "Run" labels.
- **Range limit 20:** the Reaper Block and Essence Spawner areas (size and offset) and the Spawner's radius stop at 20 blocks, so spawns stay inside the Reaper's reach.
- **Slightly see-through GUIs:** every machine screen is drawn a little transparent (93% opacity).
## 2.1.13 — Reaper rate line
- **Reaper screen:** the info list shows the attacks per minute (for example "Attacks 60.0 per minute"), so the rate no longer needs a hover.
## 2.1.12 — Loot Dossier and farm rates
- **Loot Dossier:** the Virtualization Chamber has a Dossier button. It runs the bound mob's real death code 200 times with your Looting and Player Kill cards, then shows the average drops per run, the success chance and XP per run. Press Re-sample after changing cards or the core.
- **Reaper rate:** hover the Reaper's info lines to see how many attacks it makes per minute.
- **Spawner rate:** hover the spawn line to see spawn attempts and mobs per minute.
## 2.1.11 — Chamber rate readout
- **Live rate on the Virtualization Chamber:** hover the "FE/run" line to see estimated runs per minute, successful runs per minute and FE per minute, based on the current Speed cards, success chance and run cost.
## 2.1.10 — Balance: Reaper vs Virtualization Chamber
- **Reaper Block slowed:** base attack interval 20 → 30 ticks, fastest 4 → 12 ticks. Damage per card is unchanged.
- **Essence Spawner slowed:** base spawn interval 200 → 300 ticks, fastest 10 → 40 ticks.
- **Reaper Virtualization Chamber upgraded:** base simulation interval 200 → 120 ticks, fastest 20 → 6 ticks, run cost 16,000 → 10,000 FE, and each successful run gives 2 Data Core points (was 1).
- Changed defaults only apply to new config files. Existing `grimsoul-common.toml` keeps its values, so edit those lines to get the new balance.
## 2.1.9 — Per-item config
- **Stack size per item:** every mod item (cards, Soul Steel, Data Core, Reaper's Lantern, Guide Book and the block items) has `items.<name>.maxStackSize` in `grimsoul-common.toml`. 0 keeps the mod's default.
## 2.1.8 — Per-block config
- **Block tuning:** every mod block has its own `blocks.<name>.hardness` and `blocks.<name>.blastResistance` settings in `grimsoul-common.toml`, for all ten blocks. Harder blocks take longer to break, and blast resistance controls how they survive explosions.
## 2.1.7 — Clickable cage
- **Whole cube opens the forge:** right-click any casing of a completed Soul Forge to open its GUI. Sneak to place blocks against a casing instead.
- **Visible cage:** the open faces of the cage show a faint purple lattice that pulses. A completed cage also gives off light.
## 2.1.6 — The Soul Forge becomes a cage
- **Textures by position:** the casings in the cube each look different. Corners show bone with glowing runes, edges show chain links that scroll along, and faces are plain.
- **Transforms when complete:** once the cube is assembled, the faces vanish, leaving a cage of bone corners and chain edges around a much bigger floating skull. Totems and chains orbit inside the cage.
## 2.1.5 — The Soul Forge core
- **Floating skull:** an assembled Soul Forge has a skull floating in its shaft, bobbing and turning slowly.
- **Totems and chains:** two totems and two chains circle the skull, animated. They move faster while the forge is working.
## 2.1.4 — Soul Forge can be reached
- **Fixed:** the spots above the Soul Forge were fully enclosed, so you could not right-click it. Leave the two spots directly above the forge empty as a shaft, and the forge is reachable from above. The cube needs 24 casings now.
## 2.1.3 — Soul Forge is a 3x3x3 cube
- **3D multiblock:** the Soul Forge is now a 3x3x3 cube, not a flat ring. The forge sits in the bottom middle and 24 Soul Forge Casing fill the other spots. The two spots right above the forge stay empty as a shaft, so you can reach it. A cube needs 6 Soul Forge Casing crafts (4 per craft).
- **Assembly, alive look and GUI** work the same across the whole cube.
## 2.1.2 — The Soul Forge wakes up
- **Alive when assembled:** a completed ring wakes the forge. Its eye opens and blinks, and the casings grow veins that crawl across the ring.
- **Furious while forging:** the eye turns bright and its pupil widens, and soul fire rises faster.
- **Ambient effects:** soul motes rise off the ring, with a heartbeat now and then. Both are stronger while forging.
## 2.1.1 — Soul Forge rework
- **Soul Forge is a flat 3x3 ring:** the forge in the middle with 8 Soul Forge Casing around it (it was a 3x3x3 cube).
- **Assembly effect:** when the ring is complete the casings join into one machine, with a sound, particles and a message to nearby players. Breaking a casing or the forge splits it again.
- **Soul Forge GUI:** a larger window, shorter status text, and hovering the top line shows the build steps.
- **Animated textures:** the Soul Forge (idle and active), the Soul Forge Casing and the formed casing are animated, in the same steel and purple style as the other machines.
- **Soul Forge config:** the max FE input per tick is now `soulForge.maxInputPerTick`. Each craft has an on/off switch: `soulForge.eggEnabled`, `soulForge.bossEnabled` and `soulForge.soulboundEnabled`.
- **Guide and quests:** the Soul Forge page and quest describe the 3x3 build.
## 2.1.0 — Farming cards, Soul Forge and quality of life
- **Beheading card:** Reaper Block cards (up to 10). Each card adds a chance to drop the head of a zombie, skeleton, creeper or piglin when the Reaper kills it.
- **Harvest card:** a Reaper Block card (1 max) that takes wool from adult sheep, milk from adult cows and eggs from adult chickens without hurting them. Cows and chickens are ready again after 2 minutes. Harvested animals are not attacked, even in Hostile mode.
- **Settings Card:** right-click a machine to copy its settings (work area, whitelist, filter, auto-eject, magnet, redstone mode and on/off). Right-click another machine of the same kind to paste them. Sneak-right-click to clear the card. Items, upgrades and power are never copied.
- **Soul Steel and Soul Forge:** Soul Steel is made from Netherite and a Nether Star. The Soul Forge is a flat 3x3 multiblock: the forge in the middle with 8 Soul Forge Casing around it (4 per Soul Steel). When the ring is complete the casings join into one machine, with a sound, particles and a message. Open its GUI, put an item in the work slot and Soul Steel in the next slot, and it forges (using FE):
- a Soulforged Data Core of a mob with a spawn egg makes that spawn egg;
- a Soulforged Data Core of a boss makes a **Boss Core card**;
- any single item makes a **soulbound** copy, kept in your inventory when you die.
- **Soul Forge in JEI and EMI:** the forge's spawn egg, Boss Core and soulbound crafts have their own pages, with their time and power cost.
- **Soul Forge GUI:** the window is larger, the text is shorter and no longer runs under the power bar. Hover the top line for the build steps.
- **Soul Forge settings:** the forge's power capacity, its max FE input per tick, each craft's time and power cost, and an on/off switch for each craft are in the config (`soulForge.*` in `grimsoul-common.toml`).
- **Boss Core card:** a fifth Virtualization Chamber card. It halves the power cost of running a boss (Wither, Ender Dragon, c:bosses). Max 1.
- **JEI, EMI and Jade support (optional):** the Reaper Generator's fuel values show in JEI and EMI, and Jade shows each machine's status (power, XP, mob, energy).
- **Smite and Bane of Arthropods cards removed:** they weren't needed. Any of these cards you had are gone when you load 2.1.0.
- **Guide:** a new Endgame & Utilities section covers the Settings Card, Soul Steel, Soul Forge and Boss Core card.
- **FTB Quests chapter:** `ftbquests/grimsoul.snbt` in the repo is a starter chapter that walks through the machines. Copy it into your pack's `config/ftbquests/quests/chapters/` folder.
## 2.0.0 — Apotheosis support, boss Soul Cards and smoother visuals
- **Apotheosis support:** with a **Player Kill** card, hostile mobs killed by the Reaper Block or simulated in the Virtualization Chamber can drop Apotheosis affix weapons, tools and armor. Rarity follows the nearest player's World Tier and luck. The chance is 5% per kill by default and can be changed with `compat.apotheosisGearChance` in the config. Apotheosis is optional.
- **Boss Soul Cards:** Soul Cards can now be bound to the **Ender Dragon** (click any part of it) and the **Wither**, so you can farm them in the Virtualization Chamber. Simulated dragons give 500 XP with a Player Kill card. The Reaper's Lantern still can't capture either of them.
- **No AI card fixed:** mobs from a spawner with a No AI card can no longer hurt you in any way (melee, touch damage, arrows, explosions), never target you and make no sound. They stay frozen even after converting (like a zombie drowning).
- **Reaper Block lasers fixed:** the lasers now show up reliably, with or without shaders (tested with Iris and Complementary). They fire out to the target, pulse along the beam and fade out smoothly.
- **See-through Reaper Block screen:** the screen is now about 70% transparent, so you can see the work area outline while changing it. Labels have a shadow so they stay readable.
- **Smoother animations:** spinning, bobbing and glowing parts on every machine now run on the client's own clock, so they no longer stutter when the server lags.
- **Machines no longer give off light:** the Reaper Spawner, Reaper Generator and Virtualization Chamber used to light up the area around them, which stopped mobs from spawning nearby. They still glow visually, but no longer light up blocks.
- **Every upgrade card has its own recipe:** no more clashes (No AI and Bane of Arthropods shared a recipe before). Each recipe uses a frame item that matches the card's machine: iron for shared cards, amethyst for the Reaper Block, gold for the Reaper Spawner and prismarine for the Virtualization Chamber. The Codex shows the new recipes.
