GREY GOO REDUX 0.5.3
For Minecraft 1.20.1 (Forge)

The Hearth Goo grew up. It builds real houses now and it can take them back down again. It also stopped crashing. Water Goo and
Lava Goo finally destroy what they touch instead of shoving it around the map.

===============================================================================
 NEW: THIRTY HOUSES, AND YOU PICK
===============================================================================

Plant a Hearth seed and a building grows out of the ground, block by block, over about
ninety seconds. When it finishes it tells you what it built and who built it.

  * Sneak + right-click with the seed in hand to cycle through the list. The action bar
    shows where you are ("3 of 30") and the seed renames itself to match. Keep going and
    it comes round to "a random house each time". Sneaking never plants a seed by accident.

  * You start with one in the starter ender chest.

Two of them are enormous:

  A MOUNTAIN CASTLE, by ViSion20s -- the largest thing the Goo has ever built. A fortress
  that arrives on its own mountain, foundations and all, so it settles into a hillside
  instead of perching on it. Takes about two minutes.

  A HILLSIDE HALL AND WATCHTOWER, by ViSion20s -- a galleried hall beside a fifty-block
  spired tower on a mossy crag, with a cellar cut into the rock beneath.

And there is one built from scratch for this release:

  AN ABYSSAL STATION -- a glass dome on the sea floor with a galley, a forge, bunks, a
  library, a two-door airlock and a mine shaft running down to bedrock. Built to hold the
  water out.

The rest: a cherry timber cottage and a cherry blossom garden, a slate-roofed spruce hall,
a starter cottage, a cherry-roofed starter house, a birch cottage, a spruce lodge, blue and
yellow fairytale cottages, an elven house, a modern oak house, a sugar cane farmhouse, a
decorated moss farm, a bamboo lake house, a spruce harbour house, a house in the rocks, a
great timber manor, a medieval mansion, a furnished medieval house, a deepslate survival
house, a luxury forest lodge, a japanese water garden base, a japanese garden estate, a
glasshouse farmstead, a great cherry tree, and a snowy house on the moon.

===============================================================================
 NEW: TAKE IT BACK DOWN
===============================================================================

For five minutes after a house finishes, plant another seed on it and the Goo dismantles
it in reverse -- the roof first, scattered, layer by layer -- and puts the ground back
exactly as it was. Water, terrain, everything.

  * Measured in game time, so pausing does not burn the window, and /time set cannot end
    it early. You get a warning thirty seconds before the offer expires.

  * Everything lying on the ground inside the area is cleared away, so keep your things
    out of it.

  * A block you are standing in waits until you step out rather than burying you.

===============================================================================
 THE HOUSES ARE PROPERLY FURNISHED NOW
===============================================================================

Several things were quietly going missing on the way in. All of them are fixed, and every
house has been rebuilt from source:

  * CHESTS HAVE THINGS IN THEM. Minecraft changed how items are stored a few versions ago,
    and every container, barrel and book in every downloaded house was arriving empty
    without a word said. Their contents come through now, enchantments included.

  * LEAVES STOP ROTTING. Houses used to come apart in front of you as their leaves decayed.
    The great cherry tree -- which is far more leaf than wood -- lost most of itself within
    minutes of being built. Every leaf is placed permanent now, the same as one you place
    by hand.

  * PAINTINGS AND ITEM FRAMES ARRIVE. Wall decorations were being dropped entirely at
    import. They are hung once the walls are up, and they come down with the house.

  * NO MORE SKY-SCRAPING. A house used to dig out the empty space above its own roof,
    which flattened the trees around a woodland cottage and left the severed canopies
    hanging in the air. Only the rooms are carved now.

  * STRAY MARKER BLOCKS ARE GONE. Four houses were carrying the corner blocks a builder's
    selection tool leaves behind -- including one hanging in mid-air above the roof of a
    medieval hall.

  * TWO BUILDERS WERE CREDITED BY THE WRONG NAME. La_Esponja was appearing as "La", and
    Lindolas_MC as "Lindolas". Fixed.

Houses also build faster and use much less memory, and the stutter when you plant a seed
is gone.

===============================================================================
 WATER GOO AND LAVA GOO ARE BARRIERS NOW, NOT OBSTACLES
===============================================================================

  * THEY DESTROY THE FLUID INSTEAD OF PUSHING IT AROUND. A cell that finds water or lava
    beside it takes it and stays put, so nothing flows back in behind it. Only a cell with
    nothing left to take spends itself and disappears. Before this, one seed could run for
    six minutes, bring the server to its knees, and leave the lake exactly where it was.

  * THEY REACT THE MOMENT FLUID ARRIVES rather than waiting out a timer while water pours
    past them.

  * BLOCKS WITH WATER INSIDE THEM ARE DRAINED, NOT SKIPPED. Glow lichen, stairs, slabs,
    fences, chests, ladders, lanterns, coral -- each one is a water source like any other,
    and the Goo used to walk straight past them. One left behind became a spring in the
    middle of ground the Goo had just cleared, and the water poured back out of it forever.
    The Goo now takes the water and leaves the block standing, so it drains your build
    rather than eating it.

  * Placed away from any fluid, a cell still expires on its first action. These are not
    building blocks.

===============================================================================
 PRISMATIC GOO IS NO LONGER HUNTED BY THE WATCHDOG
===============================================================================

Prismatic Goo is the cleanup Goo -- it exists to eat the others. The performance watchdog
was culling it, which is the one thing guaranteed to make an outbreak worse: the Goo it was
clearing carried on unopposed while the thing clearing it was wiped out. On one live
outbreak it was destroyed eleven times in three minutes and simply came back each time.

Only the last-resort protocol -- the one that fires when the game itself is grinding to a
halt -- can remove it now. It still bows out on its own once there is nothing left anywhere
for it to clean up.

===============================================================================
 THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE YOU BUILD
===============================================================================

  * KEEP YOUR ANIMALS OUT OF A FOOTPRINT. You and your tamed pets are the only things that
    can stop a house going up or coming down. Anything else standing in the way -- a cow, a
    sheep, a villager, an empty boat, a minecart, an armour stand -- is removed on the spot.
    It is removed rather than killed: no corpse, no loot on the floor, no death message.

    Your tamed animals are safe. Wolves, cats, parrots, horses, donkeys, mules and llamas
    you have tamed, and whatever they are riding in. An untamed wolf belongs to nobody and
    is cleared like any other animal. A pet that will not move out of a doorway will hold
    that block up just as you would.

  * DROPPED ITEMS ARE SWEPT AWAY while a house is going up, not only when one comes down.

  * THE GOO REFUSES TO BUILD over command blocks, spawners, beacons, portals, bedrock or
    anything unbreakable, and tells you what stopped it and where. It will not entomb you.
    It will not build inside Terra Goo's zone, and an Extraplanar portal will not cut into
    a house that is still going up.

  * TALL BUILDS SLIDE DOWN to fit the world rather than being refused, and say so.

  * DON'T PLANT A HOUSE ON TOP OF AN ACTIVE GOO OUTBREAK. Ground with Goo living in it
    cannot be photographed, so an undo of that house will put back less than all of it.
    You will be told when that happens, both when the house finishes and when you take it
    down.

===============================================================================
 ALSO FIXED
===============================================================================

  * The game crashed the moment a house finished building in 0.5.2. Every house, every
    time. Not any more.

  * A house no longer leaves whole chunks of itself standing when you take it down.

  * Chunks a house held open are released when it finishes; they could previously stay
    loaded for the life of the world.

  * The Extraplanar portal's base scatters into place instead of appearing in rows.
