Grey Goo Redux 0.5.3
Minecraft 1.20.1 / Forge
The Hearth Goo grew up. It builds real houses now, lots of them, anywhere, and can take
them back down. It also stopped crashing.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
HEARTH GOO
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Fixed: the game crashed the moment a house finished building. That was every house, every
time, in 0.5.2. It does not happen any more.
Seventeen new houses, built by the community. Each one is credited to its builder in the
message you see when it finishes. The full list: a starter cottage, a birch cottage, a
spruce lodge, a blue fairytale cottage, a yellow fairytale cottage, a modern oak house, a
sugar cane farmhouse, a decorated moss farm, a bamboo lake house, a house in the rocks, a
great timber manor, a medieval mansion, a furnished medieval house, a deepslate survival
house, a japanese water garden base, a great cherry tree, and a snowy house on the moon.
Choose your house. Sneak and right-click with the Hearth Goo in hand to cycle through the
list; the action bar shows which one you are on ("3 of 18") and the item's name changes to
match. Keep cycling and it comes round to "a random house each time" again. Sneaking never
places a seed, so you cannot lose one while choosing.
Undo. For five minutes after a house finishes, place another Hearth seed on it and the Goo
takes it apart again, in the reverse of the order it went up. The five minutes are game
time -- pausing does not count against you -- and you get a warning thirty seconds before
the offer runs out. The undo puts the whole area back exactly as it was before the house,
water and all. That includes anything you changed inside the footprint in the meantime, so
if you put a chest in there, the Goo empties it into your inventory first. It will not bury
you: any block you are standing in waits until you step out.
No height limit. A tall structure slides down to fit the world rather than being refused,
and tells you so. Works in every dimension, including modded ones -- the Goo reads each
world's own height rules.
Builds beyond your view. A house wider than the chunks you have loaded used to be
impossible; the Goo now holds a small window of chunks open around whatever it is placing
and lets them go as it moves on. Large houses build faster -- the pace rises with the size
of the job -- and one block somebody is standing in no longer stalls the whole build.
Careful where it builds. The Hearth Goo will not build over command blocks, spawners,
beacons, portals, bedrock, barriers or anything unbreakable, and tells you exactly what
stopped it and where. It will not entomb you, your animals or your horse. It will not build
inside Terra Goo's zone, and an Extraplanar portal will not cut into a house that is still
going up.
Houses from newer Minecraft versions no longer crash the game. Community builds are often
saved by a newer version than 1.20.1; blocks that do not exist here are swapped for the
closest match, and signs are rewritten so they load safely.
You start with one. The Hearth Goo is now in the starter ender chest alongside the others.

OTHER FIXES
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Chunks a house held open are now released when it finishes. Previously they could stay
loaded for the life of the world and slowly weigh the server down.
The performance watchdog no longer wipes out Prismatic Goo while the Goo it was hunting
survives.
The Extraplanar portal's base scatters into place rather than appearing in rows.

KNOWN ISSUES
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- The undo offer does not survive a server restart. Once you quit, a finished house stays.
- Very large houses may hitch for a moment at the very end while the Goo checks its work.
- A house still growing when the server restarts may not finish. Break the seed and place
a new one.
- Grey Goo will eat a finished house like anything else once the undo window has passed.
The Hearth seed itself is immune; the building is a building.
