This mod will make your mining trips more enjoyable by getting rid of the falling gravel problem that everyone has run into before.
When installed on the server, falling gravel will be insta-broken when you break the block below it.
When installed on the client only, torches will be automatically placed to break the gravel as it falls.
This project is sponsored by Server.pro.
Features
- Insta-break falling gravel when breaking the block below
- If the server doesn't have the mod installed, auto-place torches below falling gravel instead
- Optional on both client and server. nly those who want to use it need to install it, and if the server doesn't have it installed, it will still work for clients who do have it installed.
This also works on sand/red_sand, I did not add Concrete Powder. Replace the following line in the file - config\gravelminer-common.toml:
gravelBlocks = ["minecraft:red_sand","minecraft:sand","minecraft:gravel"]
EDIT: this change can be made while the game is running. I posted this since I'd tried space, colon, semicolon (w/ & wo/ double quotes) & comma w/ dbl-quotes is the only way I got it to work.

Do you know where I can set the gravelBlocks types in 1.12.2?
In reply to Sinfulmoon: EDIT: I've installed mc 1.12.2; forge 14.23.5.2854-installer; GravelMiner_1.12.1-6.1.2
The 1.12.2 config file is called gravelminer.cfg but it might be easier to start mc; mods menu; GravelMiner; press the [+] button to add blocks one at a time (copy/paste by using [ctrl]+C / [ctrl]+V) with the lines below (or you can edit your config file: I recommend notepad++, a very popular text editor):
S:"Gravel Blocks" <
minecraft:sand
minecraft:gravel
minecraft:red_sand

Wow. thank you for the speedy reply and yes that worked thank you. I've ran into another problem that seemed to be what I was originally having and that is gravelminer only works if I have it installed on my client. I am hosting a server from my computer and have gravelminer in it set it to allow gravelminer to work on everyone even if they dont have the mod installed. However As I said it only works if I have it installed on my client, not just server. Do you think you can determine why that is?
In reply to Sinfulmoon: No idea - keep in mind that I'm not the author [Members: BlayTheNinth (Owner); CFGrafanaStats (Mascot)]. All I can say is what is posted in the mods description. There is a setting in the config for: #If set to true, the mod will trigger when mining gravel as well, instead of only when mining a non-gravel block below gravel.
triggerOnGravel = true
Have you tested it by mining a 'gravel block' under a gravel pile/stack VS mining a 'non-gravel block' under a gravel pile/stack?
In reply to aplayerin2020:
I know youre not the author but youve been awesome at helping. I have also tested that already, did 2 gravel blocks high and thought maybe it was bugging out so i did 3 gravel blocks high. Alas does not do anything.
In reply to Sinfulmoon:
So, do you mean that your test(s) include (#1) breaking a block that is 'solid' (aka 'non-gravel') below the gravel blocks? Also, I removed that 1.12 installation (my 1.16 save failed to load) so I no longer have the 'gravelminer.cfg' file - so, (#2) in your 1.12 cfg, is there the the option of '#If set to true, the mod will trigger when mining gravel as well, instead of only when mining a non-gravel block below gravel.
triggerOnGravel = true;
(#3) Do you have torches in your MainHand/OffHand/MainBar (as a test to find a client vs server 'bug'? quote: 'When installed on the server, falling gravel will be insta-broken when you break the block below it.' - keep in mind that 'works on server' is diff to 'works on ALL servers with ALL mods'; mods can conflict);
(#4) If all the above fails then I'd suggest having a 'connection msg' to ppl on your server to suggest/link to this mod -OR- make a PM to the author -OR- make a 'bug report' under the 'Issues' link at the top of the page. [P.S. is your server a pvt or public, maybe I can connect & try tests/ideas]. Take care. [EDIT: Its obvious, but I was working in IT for tooo many yrs so - 'server\config' folder is diff to 'client\config' folder - I know you know, but sometimes the simple answer is that the cable for power/keyboard/video is unplugged... no offence]

How and where?

'How' do do what? 'Where' to do what?
I've given 2 answers above on how to edit v1.12 & 1.16 in comment #41 & #43 [ <--- click on the numbers to go to my posts]
Is it possible to have the 'auto-place torch' used always, even on single player? I don't always expect gravel & so when I see blocks doing a weird 'thing' I don't know that its from this mod working properly - instead I'll sit there thinking "Now which of my recent mods made that weird thing that just happened...
I only ask because its already an included feature/option for servers - & THX for the QoL mod!!
thank you, my mortal enemy shall finally perish
could you possibly add a version of this for 1.12.2 please?????
anychance you could make it so if you are crouching it dosent mine all the gravel?
In reply to NateRing:
Created an issue for it on GitHub: https://github.com/blay09/GravelMiner/issues/13
In reply to BlayTheNinth:
awesome would be an amazing feature please add it for 1.12.2
there is a special place in heaven for people like you thank you
You deserve a medal of honor
Will this be updated to 1.14.3 in the future?
In reply to justplayn10:
It's been updated to 1.14.3. Not sure if it works on 1.14.4 yet.
I know it's called GravelMiner and all, but can you make it so it works with other falling blocks? (Sand, Concrete Powder, etc.)
(Edit: nevermind, saw your reply to Kondrik)
