Glance Turn

Glance Turn adds a quick look-back mechanic to Minecraft, inspired by Outlast.

Press a key to quickly look behind you while running, then smoothly return your view to its original direction. Keep moving and check your surroundings without changing your character's actual movement direction.

The goal is to bring this small but immersive mechanic into Minecraft while keeping it simple, smooth, and configurable.

Features

• Quick Look-Back — quickly turn your view behind you with a dedicated keybind.

• Independent Camera Rotation — look behind you without changing your character's actual rotation or movement direction.
  
  
• Customizable Keybind — the default key is R, and it can be changed in Minecraft's Controls menu.
  
  
• Client-Side Configuration — customize the turn angle and animation durations.
  
  
• Sprint Requirement — choose whether sprinting is required to activate the mechanic.

Configuration

Glance Turn currently uses the following client configuration file:

config/quickturn-client.toml

Available options include:

• enabled — enable or disable the mechanic.
  
  
• requireSprinting — require sprinting to activate the turn.
  
  
• turnAngle — customize the turning angle. Default: 180°.
  
  
• turnDuration — customize the turning animation duration. Default: 160 ms.
  
  
• returnDuration — customize the return animation duration. Default: 250 ms.
• The keybind can be changed in Minecraft's Controls settings.

Note: The mod's internal name and configuration file still use the name Quick Turn for now. This is temporary, and the naming will be updated in a future update.

Development Status

Glance Turn is a work in progress. The core mechanic is functional and has been tested in Minecraft, but further polishing, adjustments, and new features may come in future updates.

The original idea was inspired by Outlast, where looking back while running adds tension and makes movement feel more immersive. Glance Turn brings a similar mechanic to Minecraft in its own way.
