FT's Geology

A geology layer for Minecraft: real plate tectonics driving real landforms. Strongly recommended alongside Flowing Fluids and especially Terralith.

What's new

FT's Geology 0.11.3

Ore bodies you can find from the surface, rivers that look more natural, and support for Streams Reflowing. Forge 1.20.1, and from this version NeoForge 1.21.1 too.

Ore bodies

  • Porphyry copper and gold-bearing quartz reefs now reach the surface in the mountains. You see them on bare rock: crags, cliffs and gullies, with a rusty cap stained green and blue over the copper
  • Streams below a body carry pieces of it down their banks, and there is gold in the gravel below a reef. Follow them up to the body
  • The hammer tells you which way the richest ore lies and how deep, or how far up the stream a piece came from; a core drilled through a body gives its thickness and grade; strike soil for a soil sample
  • Vanilla ores take the look of the mod's rocks they sit in (gold in schist, lapis in marble, coal in slate and shale, diamond in peridotite...), 28 new blocks
  • Coal now forms where it should: in basins and lowlands, with coal seams on valley sides, not in mountain cores or lavas
  • Mountain belts are folded: gneiss and schist in the core, slate at the edge

Rivers

  • Rivers are shallower (about four blocks for a big river) and keep their width down a mountain
  • Rivers meet the sea gently, with no pit and sudden ridge at the mouth, and come up to the floor of a shallow sea
  • Mountain rivers run on gravel, sand and their own bedrock instead of cobblestone

Streams Reflowing

  • With Streams Reflowing installed, a new world asks whose rivers it gets. By default Streams draws the streams and FT's Geology keeps its big rivers and lakes
  • Streams' streams meet the rivers at their water, and where Streams' water ends up inside the mod's rivers, the rivers take it back

Settings

  • New settings screen (Mods > FT's Geology > Config): river foam, leaves on the rivers, storm clouds. If rivers cost you frames, turn off the foam and the leaves first
  • oreOutcrops, rockOres, coalWhereItForms and riverWater in the server config

Fixed

  • A block put into a river no longer makes endless water with Flowing Fluids
  • No more glass-like walls in the sea at river mouths
  • No more straight walls where a mountain range meets a rift
  • Spelunkery no longer keeps ore out of the mod's rocks
  • Patches of a second water with its own current inside rivers, with Streams Reflowing
