Frencore's Totem of Respite

A rare Ancient City totem that eats one hit for you straight from your inventory, then needs a long nap.

Totem of Respite

_The weird cousin of the Totem of Undying. A rare, sculk-touched totem that shields you from one hit - any hit - straight from your inventory. No offhand juggling, no sacrifice on death. It just takes the blow for you… and then needs a very long nap.

Based on the wonderful concept art by Frencore

How it works

  • Works from anywhere in your inventory. Hotbar, backpack, wherever - if it's charged, it triggers.
  • Absorbs exactly one hit, whether it's a zombie slap or a Warden sonic boom.
  • Not consumed. Instead of shattering, it goes dormant and recharges over time (default: 20 minutes). Each totem tracks its own charge - carry two and they recharge independently.
  • Found in Ancient Cities - rare loot in city chests (5% by default), deliberately placed there to give you a fighting chance against the Warden.

What it won't save you from

  • The void and /kill - same rules as the vanilla totem.
  • By default, hits below half a heart don't waste the charge, so you won't burn a 30-minute cooldown on a cactus. This threshold is configurable.

Totem of Undying synergy

They complement each other: Respite eats the first incoming hit of any size, and if it's still recharging when a lethal blow lands, your trusty Totem of Undying in the offhand works exactly as in vanilla.

Requirements

Supported versions: 1.19.2, 1.19.4, 1.20.0-1.20.4, 1.20.5-1.20.6, 1.21.0-1.21.1, 26.1., 26.2.

FAQ

The totem didn't trigger - why? Check its tooltip: it's most likely recharging. Hits below the damage threshold are also ignored by design.

Can I put it in an item frame / does it need to be held? It only needs to be somewhere in your inventory. Holding it changes nothing.
