(Sodium) Fovea

Upscales the edges of the screen to increase performance

Fovea

A 5120x1440 ultrawide is 2.4 times the pixels of a 1440p monitor, and most of that sits out at the sides where you are not looking. Fovea renders the edges at a lower resolution and puts the frame back together before the HUD is drawn.

Off, then on.

What you get

  • The middle of the screen stays at full resolution.
  • Your HUD, text and menus are untouched.
  • Under Iris the whole shaderpack runs at the reduced size too.
  • Render distance can also fall off toward the screen edges, for entities, block entities and particles.

⚠ The tradeoff, up front: centre-priority mode trims the outermost degrees of horizontal FOV and stretches the edges to fill the gap. Raise your FOV slider to get the width back, or turn Centre Priority off for uniform mode, which only changes resolution.

Settings

Horizontal scale        70% (5120x1440 renders 3584x1440)
Centre at full quality  40% of screen width
Max edge stretch        2x - it renders wider rather than smearing
Culling                 entities and particles on, terrain off
Dynamic resolution      off
Menu throttle           on - the world runs at 10 FPS behind a menu

All of it is in Sodium's video settings, and in Reese's.

Before you install

Client only, NeoForge 1.21.1. Sodium is optional - without it the options live in a config file. It turns itself off under Fabulous graphics.
